Abstract
The drum-type winch has an epicyclic gear train in one or more stages housed inside the drum. A driving motor (1) fixed to the chassis is connected by a coupling (2) to the gear train input sun wheel (3). On the other side of the latter there is a brake (8), also connected to it by a coupling (9), and mounted on the chassis, being partly or wholly housed inside the drum. The brake can be of the multiple-disc type, the teeth of the sun wheel being extended in the axial direction and acting as the coupling. The design gives good heat dissipation from the brake, together with easy accessibility for maintenance, and compactness.
