Abstract
The specific. describes a sepn. chamber contg. a porous packing of magnetisable particles between its inlet and its outlet and intended as part of a system for sepn. of magnetisable particles suspended in a flow medium. According to the novelty, at least one deflecting baffle is provided in the packing, the baffle being so arranged that it interrupts the otherwise shortest path between the inlet and the outlet. As a result the flowing medium is contrained to flow along a path by the baffle which is greater than the shortest path from inlet to outlet. A smaller separator is achieved for the same throughput and efficiency. This considerably reduces costs when superconductance is employed to generate magnetic field using cryogenic cooling.
