Abstract

Production of axle housings for motor vehicle axles by means of explosion forming in the die where a hollow profile (3) is joined from two profiles (1) by a high output welding process. Each of the profiles before the joining is provided with a shaped cut out which corresponds in size and shape to the axle drive opening in the axle housing and is symmetrical or unsymmetrical to the middle axis. The hollow profile (3) is explosively formed to the axle housing opening in the die within the region of the shaped cut outs. The explosive charge is a pre-metered, packed quantity of a conventional detonating explosive.
