Abstract

Each stage of a multi-stage fluid-compression pump comprises a resilient bellows with a non-return valve inlet and opposite-acting non-return valve delivery, the suction of the second and following stages being connected to the delivery of the preceding stage. Pref. the bellows of each stage is enclosed in a chamber in which pressure is maintained equal to the inlet passage pressure of that stage. The use of bellows instead of reciprocating pistons eliminates frictional wear and subsequent leakage of dangerous and corrosive fluids, e.g. cryogenic fluids, nitric acid and nitrogen peroxide.
