Abstract

926,370. Compressors. CROSS MANUFACTURING CO. (1938) Ltd. March 1, 1962 [Oct. 31, 1961], No. 38883/61. Class 8(1). The head end of a compressor or vacuum pump cylinder 12 forms a seat 21 for a delivery valve 22 of the poppet type having a flat face 23 of diameter at least equal to that of the cylinder bore and when unseated by gas pressure acting against a biasing spring 29 allows the flat face 17 of the piston 16 to project into the head chamber when the piston is a top dead centre. When four equally spaced inlet ports 32, 33, 36 and another not shown each connected to a flared tube are uncovered by the piston 16, gas is admitted at high speed into the cylinder which thus becomes supercharged.
