Abstract

Un método de hacer reaccionar contaminantes de gases de escape procedentes de combustión, mediante la oxidación de los hidrocarburos no quemados y mediante la reducción de los óxidos de nitrógeno, que comprende: (a) hacer pasar dichos gases de escape a través de un primer lecho de un catalizador, para la reducción de los óxidos de nitrógeno y después, (b) inyectar aire en dichos gases de escape y hacer pasar la mezcla resultante a través de un segundo lecho de catalizador para la oxidación de los hidrocarburos no quemados y del monóxido de carbono, en donde dichos primero y segundo lechos de catalizador comprenden (1) un soporte, (2) un componente de óxido metálicos de base depositado sobre dicho soporte, estando seleccionado dicho componente de óxido metálico de base de entre el grupo consistente en los óxidos de hierro, cobalto, níquel, cromo, wolframio, cinc, cobre, manganeso y renio o mezclas de los mismos, y (3) un componente metálico del grupo del platino depositado sobre dicho soporte, estando seleccionado dicho componente metálico del grupo del platino de entre el grupo consistente en platino y platino más, por lo menos, uno de los metales del grupo del platino, rodio, rutenio e iridio o mezclas o aleaciones de los mismos.
