Definitions
- the invention is based on an electrode for a high-pressure discharge lamp according to the preamble of claim 1.
- electrodes for high-pressure discharge lamps which contain sodium, in particular high-pressure sodium lamps.
- Another field of application are, for example, pure Hg high-pressure discharge lamps.
- the US-A 2,887,603 shows a high-pressure discharge lamp with an electrode rod made of tungsten, which has at its discharge-side end a conical recess, at the top of which a hole filled with an emitter hole is provided.
- the emitters used in discharge lamps show in operation a high mobility in the discharge vessel, in particular caused by sputtering.
- the emitter substances therefore beat down over time on all walls of the discharge vessel. They also have a lasting effect on the chemical and physical processes during lamp operation, in particular they can change the filling. Overall, therefore, the useful life of the lamp is shortened.
- the emitter and its reservoir is located in a safe place where it is not exposed to a sputtering process.
- the emitter material that lowers the electron work function often an oxide or an oxidic material such as Ba, Ca, Y tungstate, is introduced into open, centric or acentric bores located at the arc end of the electrode, either in the core pin, in particular survives, or in the head of the electrode itself, are.
- an oxide or an oxidic material such as Ba, Ca, Y tungstate
- the emitter-filled body may be conventionally provided with an outer winding of refractory metal.
- the winding can be single or multi-layered. This winding can serve as a bow approach and gives a higher heat capacity.
- a refractory metal usually tungsten, tantalum, rhenium or an alloy or a carbide of these metals is used.
- the electrode is held in the discharge vessel by a power supply and led out of a discharge vessel.
- the electrode according to the invention can be used both in all cylindrically symmetrical ceramic and in glass-made discharge vessels for high-pressure discharge lamps.
- the work function lowering emitter material is thereby introduced into an open hole which is located at the arc end of the electrode.
- the emitter material can be a pellet, ie a solid. but also the use of a liquid or paste is possible, with a simple admission by immersion bath treatment is possible. A second step is then the formation, if necessary. This depends on whether the emitter is oxidic or not.
- the borehole is surrounded by a collar, which preferably has a defined inner and outer radius. These are chosen so that the approach of the discharge arc preferably takes place on the outer part of the collar.
- the inner part, which forms the borehole edge, must be made sufficiently free of burrs.
- the surface of the emitter material is preferably concave in the borehole.
- the diameter, the depth and the centricity of the emitter-filled inner volume, preferably embodied as a borehole, are preferably chosen such that both a violation of the core pin outer wall is excluded and the maximum amount of emitters that can be filled is of a similar order compared to a conventional pasting.
- a corresponding solid head of the electrode can be selected, which is solid or designed as a sintered body.
- FIG. 1 is a high-pressure sodium lamp 1 with a power of 70 W shown with a two-sided sealed discharge vessel 2 made of ceramic.
- a two-sided sealed discharge vessel 2 made of ceramic.
- two external power supply lines 5 are sealed by means of glass solder 4, which are connected to electrodes 6 in the interior of the discharge vessel.
- FIG. 2 shows an enlarged view of the electrodes 6.
- the electrodes 6 consist of core pins 7, on which a coil body 8 is pushed. This forms almost the headboard. Both components are made of tungsten.
- the diameter of the core pin is 700 microns, that of the coil body 8 is a maximum of 1700 microns, with a wire diameter of 200 microns.
- the helical body 8 consists of two layers 8a and 8b of windings.
- the end of the core pin 7 is the discharge side against the coil body 8 via. It forms here the emitter vessel 9 with a central bore 16 which is almost completely filled with emitter material 10. This has a concave discharge-side surface 11 near the end of the bore 16th
- Fig. 3 Fig. 2 shows in an enlarged scale that the vessel wall 12 forms a collar which can be divided into an inner collar part 13 which is convexly curved towards the bore and has the radius of curvature Ri, and an outer collar part 14 which convexly curves towards the outer side wall 15 of the vessel is with an equal radius of curvature Ra as Ri.
- a concrete emitter material besides the tungstates is thorium oxide.
- the concrete dimensions of the emitter vessel are as follows: outer diameter 700 ⁇ m Inner diameter 300 ⁇ m Depth of the borehole 4.5 mm Inner radius of curvature Ri 140 ⁇ m Outer radius of curvature Ra 140 ⁇ m
- the difference in the light output compared to a conventional electrode is already 2.2% after 100 hours and increases monotonically with increasing burning time. Also, the formation of deposits on the insides of the ends of the discharge vessel is already significantly lower in visual comparison than in the conventional design.
- FIG. 4 shows an embodiment of an electrode 19 according to the invention, in which the emitter vessel is formed by the head 20 of the electrode, which is formed as a sintered body of tungsten. He sits on a separate shaft 21 made of solid tungsten.
- the emitter material is a pellet 22 in the central borehole 23.
- the radii of curvature of the inner and outer collar portions 24 and 25 are of different sizes. For example, the inner radius of curvature 140 microns and the outer radius of curvature 60 microns.
- the overall dimensions of such solid electrodes are on the order of similar electrodes based on a core pin with outer winding.
- FIG. 5 shows an embodiment in which the emitter vessel 25 is formed as a head. It can also be formed by a core pin.
- FIG. 5a shows an embodiment in which the inner collar portion 26 has a defined radius of curvature, and this with the outer collar portion 27 via a straight piece, as a tangent to it (radius of curvature infinity) is connected. The outer collar part is an edge with radius of curvature zero.
- FIG. 5b shows an embodiment in which the inner and outer collar portion 26 and 27 has a defined radius of curvature, and between the inner and outer collar portion, a connecting tangent 28 is present.
- FIG. 5c shows an embodiment similar FIG.
- FIG. 5a shows an embodiment with peg-like collar, wherein inner and outer radius of curvature of the inner and outer collar portion 30 and 31 are different, and the collar parts not smooth, but with tip 32 abut each other.
- the outer collar part that it is designed so that the bow as possible to him higher electric field strength finds than in the inner collar part.
- This can also be realized by a suitable tip in the region of the outer collar.
- the curvature in the region of the inner collar part should generate the lowest possible electric field strengths. Its surface must therefore be as smooth as possible and must have no burrs or peaks.
- a suitable manufacturing method is spark or electrode erosion.
- Another technique is laser ablation.
- the electric field strength generated by the surface of the outer collar part should be greater than the electric field strength generated by the surface of the inner collar part. Decisive is therefore not the absolute value of the radii of curvature, but their relation to each other.
- the width of the inner collar part amount to at least 20% and typically 40 to 60% of the wall thickness of the emitter vessel.
