- a reed 6 is connected to a drive shaft 8 via a drive lever 7 and carries out a back and forth swiveling movement in order to strike an inserted weft thread against the stop edge 9.
- a shedding device 11 contains strands 12 which are guided and aligned by a choir board 13.
- the strands 12 have thread guides 14, through which the warp threads 15, 16 are moved up and down according to a predetermined program in order to form a shed (FIG. 2).
- weft threads 17, 18, 19 are also provided which can be moved up and down by strands 20, 21, 22 with thread guides 23 in order to select the weft thread 18 intended for insertion into the shed. This weft thread 18 is thus guided into the path of movement of the weft insertion needle 4, 5 and, after being inserted by the reed 6, is struck against the fabric edge 9.
- the weft insertion needles 4, 5 consist of a needle body and a bow, which are attached to the arm 3 in a cantilever manner.
- the needle bodies have a V-shaped recess 30 at the free end.
- the needle body 31 is formed in a circular arc and the bracket 32 has two parallel legs 33.
- the bracket is fixed with the leg ends in the arm and encloses the needle body 31 such that between the needle body 31 and the Legs 33 each have a slot 34 and there is a distance between the free end of the needle body 31 and the connecting portion 35.
- the bracket 32 advantageously consists of a wire.
- the weft insertion needle 4 is arranged in the arm 3 such that the opening plane of the slits 34 is transverse to the plane of movement of the weft insertion needle 4 (FIG. 2).
- the mode of operation of the weft insertion needle 4 is described with reference to FIGS. 3 to 5 using the example of three weft threads 17, 18, 19.
- the weft insertion needle 4 is shown in FIG. 3 in a position before being inserted into the shed. Before insertion, the weft thread 18 to be inserted is shifted into the path of movement of the needle body 31 by means of the strand 21 (FIG. 2), so that the weft thread 18 can be inserted into the V-shaped recess 30 during the insertion movement and can be gripped by the needle body 31.
- the weft insertion needle 4 has pulled the weft thread 18 through the shed in order to deliver it to a schematically illustrated tying device 36. Then the weft insertion needle 4 is pulled out of the shed and assumes the position shown in FIG. 5. During this movement, the remaining weft threads 17, 19 are pulled aside in the final phase, so that the inserted weft thread 18 can subsequently be struck by the reed 6.
- FIGS. 6 and 7 Another embodiment of a weft insertion needle 5 is shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, the weft insertion needle being shown in FIG. 6 in a position before the start of the insertion process and in FIG. 7 in the position after the end of the insertion process.
