From EP-A-0416315 a chopper for shredding garden waste is known, with a cutting mechanism which contains a slotted knife disc rotatably mounted in a cutting housing and driven by a motor, on which knife blades are detachably fastened and on the underside of which ejection blades are attached, whereby a counter knife spans the knife disc in a bridge-like manner and is detachably fastened to a cutting housing.

From EP-A-0251060 a device for chopping garden waste with a housing provided with at least one ejection opening is known, onto which a loading chute is placed, which is covered downwards by a carrier disc accommodated in the housing. A high level of functionality with a small design is achieved in that the loading shaft has a cross-section which extends from the edge region of the carrier disc over its center provided with a deflector body, and in that the motor assigned to the carrier disc is suspended from the bottom of a housing chamber receiving the carrier disc which has discharge openings assigned to the circumferential indentations.

From EP-A-0175313 a device for shredding garden waste with a knife cutter that can be driven by a motor and drives under a stationary counterholder is known, the knife disk being arranged in a housing chamber provided with an ejection channel, into which a lower end of the knife disk is located blocked input shaft opens. In this device, a trouble-free and reliable mode of operation is achieved in that the stationary counter-holder is designed as a radially projecting nose which has an edge parallel to the cutter disc, which cooperates with the blades of the cutter disc, and an edge which delimits it radially on the inside, approximately perpendicular to the cutter disc plane which passes a cylindrical cutter disc attachment coaxially received on the cutter disc.

Garden shredders of the above type are known from DE-OS 37 22 339. They can be operated at a comparatively low speed and also relatively quietly and with a comparatively low drive power. The material to be chopped in this way, in particular twigs or knots in the form of garden waste, can be fed in unsorted via the feed hopper, because it is mainly sorted by the knife mechanism and the counter-cutting edges on the abutment insert that interact with it so that the larger or thicker branch material from the surrounding knives are pressed outwards and cut there by the flat knives, while the thinner branch and twig material is pressed inwards to the pre-shredding knives, where it is shredded or torn. In these known garden shredders, the circumferential pre-shredding knives consist of two knife plates arranged on a flat base plate fastened to the knife carrier disc and inclined relative to one another, between which there are comparatively large clearances both in the central and in particular in the peripheral area, into which stronger knots can sometimes get , which would then have to be cut or cut by the pre-comminution knives over comparatively large lengths. However, these pre-comminution knives are often not able to do this, so that the chopper can drop rapidly or even completely block with corresponding damage, particularly to its knife mechanism.

The invention has for its object to provide a garden shredder of the type mentioned, which is designed in the area of its pre-shredding measuring unit so that it is not impaired or blocked even by stronger knots and such material can be crushed without problems and effectively.

This object is achieved in that the pre-comminution knives consist of two diametrically opposed knife blades, which are bent roof-shaped in their upper region, and the filler piece consists of a coffin-shaped filler body flattened on both sides, slightly rotatably offset between the vertical sections of the knife blades especially in its upper part, which partially protrudes into the roof-shaped area of the knife blades, is correspondingly beveled in the manner of a truncated cone.

In this way, the pre-shredding knife mechanism can be effectively protected against excessive exposure to excessively strong or coarse knot material, because even such coarser or thicker branches can only get into the orbit of the pre-shredding knife blades over much shorter lengths, so that only whole short chips need to be cut off. With comparatively low drive power and low speed, this leads to effective shredding of this stronger knot material. This in turn also enables improved composting of the finely chopped chopped material obtained in this way.

It has proven to be particularly advantageous if the pre-comminution knives consist of two diametrically opposed knife blades, which are bent roof-shaped in their upper area, the filler piece consisting of its coffin-shaped filler body flattened on both sides, slightly rotatably offset between the vertical sections of the knife blades. which in its upper part, which partially protrudes into the roof-shaped area of the knife blades, is correspondingly beveled in the manner of a truncated cone. A pre-shredding knife mechanism of this type with a filler designed in this way has proven to be very advantageous in practice because, on the one hand, this prevents too much penetration of thick knot material into the cutting area of the pre-shredding knives, but on the other hand it still allows good or deeper access to easier-to-grasp material . In the last regard, it has also proven to be advantageous if the pre-comminution knives are provided in their rearward area in the circumferential direction with recesses which allow thinning of branches to be cut, so that thinner branch material has easier and deeper access to the cutting area of the pre-comminution knives.

The pre-comminution knives can in principle also be designed differently, in particular arranged continuously perpendicular and parallel to one another, but then the intermediate space between them is filled in almost all of its height by the filler including the chip passage slots lying on both sides of it.

Further features according to the invention are characterized in the subclaims and are explained in more detail below with reference to the drawings.

The garden shredder shown only in part in FIGS. 1 and 2 is provided with a knife housing 1, which is arranged on a frame 4 carrying the drive motor 2 together with the gear 3, which also partially surrounds the ejector chamber 5. In the knife housing 1, the knife carrier disk 7, which is to be driven in rotation by the motor 2 via the gear 3 and the shaft 6, is provided, which is provided with radially extending passage slots 8 arranged over its circumference and flat knives 10 arranged behind it in the direction of rotation 9. In the central area of the knife carrier disk 7 there are the pre-comminution knives 11 in the form of two upright and upwardly curved knife blades 11 ', 11' ', which are provided with correspondingly obliquely running cutting edges 11' '' in the direction of rotation. Provided between the cutter bars 11 ', 11' 'is a circumferential filler F which serves to limit the chip thickness and which is described in more detail below.

Above the knife carrier disk 7 and also its pre-comminution knife 11, an abutment insert 13 with its two-sided fastening feet 13 'is exchangeably fastened in corresponding recesses 12 in the frame 4. This abutment insert 13 consists of a one-piece, correspondingly shaped Iron or steel sheet. This divides the area above the revolving knife carrier disk 7 into a feed area 15 to be fed directly via the feed hopper 14 with the garden waste to be chopped and into the ejector area 16 connected to the ejector space 5. As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the abutment insert 13 has a flat web part 13 '' which runs flush with its fastening feet 13 'and which comes close to the orbit of the flat knives 10, and an inclined surface 13''', which is angled in relation thereto and has a gate-shaped recess 17 in its area surrounding the pre-comminution knives 11, one of which Gate flank 17 'forms an inner counter-cutting edge which interacts with the cutting edges 11''' of the pre-shredding knife. Between the multiple angled oblique area 13 IV and the web part 13 '', the abutment insert 13 has a lower shear bar 18, which runs essentially radially, but runs tangentially to the enveloping circle of the pre-shredding knives 11, in order to interact with the flat knives present on the knife carrier disk 10 to act on the garden waste, which is to be chopped, in the feed space 15, in particular also thicker branch material, with retracting, inwardly directed cutting action.

The feed or filling funnel 14, which is made of thin-walled sheet metal or plastic, has an obliquely upright outer tube 19 which rests on the blade housing 1 or frame housing 4 in an easily replaceable manner via the base flange 20 which is firmly connected to it. The vertical partition 21 present on the outer tube 19 abuts the upper part of the angled abutment insert 13 and thus ensures that the feed hopper 14 is sealed off from the ejector chamber 5.

The knife carrier disk 7 is provided with four radial passage slots 8 arranged uniformly distributed over its circumference and the flat knives 10 located behind it in the direction of rotation 9, which are exchangeably fastened in pronounced recesses in the knife carrier disk 7. The knife edges of the flat knives 10 each consist of several short knife cutting sections 10 ′, 10 ″, 10 ″ ″, which extend over a partial length range of less than half of the lower counter cutting edge 18 cooperating with them on the abutment insert 13, are of different heights and at least some of which are arranged radially offset from one another . In this way, narrow strips can be cut from thick branches instead of wide discs, which helps to protect the knife mechanism.

The pre-shredding knife mechanism is preferably of the type shown in FIGS. 3 to 6. According to this, the pre-shredding knives 11 consist of two diametrically opposed knife blades 11 ′, 11 ″, which are bent in a roof-like manner in their upper region and are preferably firmly connected to one another in the roof ridge by the weld seam 22. The pre-shredding knife blades are formed by the correspondingly bent legs of an essentially U-shaped knife bar, which is fixed, in particular screwed, via the web 11 IV together with the filler F lying thereon, centrally on the knife carrier disk 7. The filler F is flattened on both sides of a slightly rotationally offset between the vertical portions 11 V of the knife blades 11 arranged ', 11'', coffin-shaped filling body, the upper his, 11', 11 '' is partially protruding into the roof-shaped region of the blade wing part is correspondingly more conically beveled. As shown in FIG. 4, which shows the section along line IV-IV, there are chip passage slots 23 between the filler body F and the two knife blades 11 ′, 11 ″, which widen in the opposite direction to the direction of rotation 24 of the pre-comminution knife.

In FIGS. 3 and 4, the abutment insert 13 with its gate-like recess 17 and its inner shear 17 'interacting with the pre-comminution knives 11 is also indicated by dash-dotted lines. The circumferential pre-shredding knife 11, in cooperation with the inner shear bar 17 'and the contour of the filling body F, in any case the material to be chopped at the root cutting circle 25 with the chip thickness d machined, while in the overlying cutting area of the pre-shredding knife cutting edges 11 '''the achievable chip thickness varies and also essentially depends on the speed of the rotating knives 11 and also the drive power.

In order to be able to shred even thinner branch and branch material to a greater extent in the upper free space 26, which is not filled by the packing F, the pre-shredding knives 11 ', 11' 'are in their rear area in the circumferential direction 24 with recesses 27, 27'. provided, of which the uppermost 27 'consists of a flat that runs freely into the upper edge of the pre-shredding knife 11' '. The slots 23, which widen in the direction opposite to the direction of rotation 24, between the filling body F and the pre-comminution knives 11 enable good chip passage or exit without the presence of the filling body F being an obstacle. The roof-shaped design of the two pre-shredding knife blades 11 ', 11' 'improves the self-retraction of the chopper at this point. Nevertheless, due to the presence of the packing F, there can be no blockage due to stronger knot material even at low speeds of the rotating knife mechanism.

Via the screw fastening bores 28 in the filler body F, the latter can be exchangeably fastened to the knife carrier disk 7 in a simple form together with the knife bar 11 ', 11' 'having an essentially U-shaped angled knife bar.

In diesem Fall ist eine gleichbleibende Spandicke d über die gesamte Höhe des Vorzerkleinerungsmesserwerks zu erzielen.7 to 10, the pre-comminution knives consist of two diametrically opposed, vertically extending knife blades 31 ', which are formed by the two legs of a U-shaped curved cutter bar 31. The filler piece here consists of a cylinder body F 'flattened on both sides and slightly rotatably offset relative to the knife blades 31', which extends over almost the full height of the two knife blades 31 '. These are firmly connected to one another at the top by a transverse yoke 32. There are also between the cylindrical filler F 'and the knife blades 31' here there are chip passage slots 23 which widen in the direction opposite to the direction of rotation 24, so that here too a good chip passage is ensured. In this case, a constant chip thickness d can be achieved over the entire height of the pre-shredding cutter.

Similar relationships also exist in the embodiment shown in FIGS. 11 to 13. Here, a substantially cylindrical, one-piece support body 35, which is again screw-fastened centrally on the knife carrier disk 7 and is provided with an upper and lower edge flange 36 and 37, is provided. The narrower region of the supporting body located between the two flanges 36, 37 here forms the filler F ″, which, because of its flats 40, 40 ′ on both sides, is in turn offset from the pre-comminution knives 39 fastened to the two edge flanges 36, 37 by means of the screws 38. To secure it, the support body 35 is provided in the region of its two edge flanges 36, 37 with corresponding lateral flats 36 '. The pre-shredding knives 39 are provided here with both front and rear cutting edges 39 ', 39' ', so that they can be used as turning knives. In this case too, the position of the central region of the support body 35 forming the filling piece F ″, which is offset in relation to the rotary comminution knives 39, ensures a corresponding rearward expansion of the chip passage slots 23. Likewise, the chip thickness d can be achieved here over practically the entire height of the pre-comminution knife mechanism, so that in this case there is also an effective comminution of the chopped material at this point and blockages caused by excessively strong knot material are prevented.
