Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for achieving a low weft drop in fabrics produced on defenseless weaving machines with an edge-side leno.
  • the weft is inserted either with air or with a rapier. In both cases, the weft end must protrude fairly far beyond the fabric edge tied by the leno selvedge if the fabric edge is to be smooth.
  • weft ends cannot be created with the two methods, since when the weft is introduced with air, the weft end must have a certain minimum length in order to be able to be held in the air suction until the weft is bound by the warp threads.
  • the weft thread can only be held by the leno edge when the looper holding the weft thread has passed the leno edge. If the gripper lets go of the weft too early, for example if the weft has not completely passed through the leno edge, then the fabric edge becomes wavy, in any case unusable. So that even if the gripper releases the weft too early, a wavy edge is avoided, the weft end protruding over the fabric edge must be quite long so that it is certain that the fabric edge becomes smooth.
  • the leno edge which binds one or more warp threads on the edge together with the weft thread, has a certain holding effect on the weft thread.
  • this holding effect is not sufficient.
  • the weft thread is wavy due to the movement of the warp threads during the shedding, so that the weft thread end must also be longer for this reason so that the weft thread end still protrudes above the fabric edge in this case.
  • the invention is therefore based on the object to provide a device which makes it possible to make do with short weft ends in the manufacture of fabrics with the help of defenseless weaving machines, but at the same time it is ensured that the edge becomes smooth and attractive.
  • the weft end rests on a support element which is arranged next to the leno selvedge and that a clamping thread guided transversely to the weft end is provided which holds the weft end in a clamped manner and in that a lifting device for the clamping thread is in line at a distance from the support element is arranged with the warp thread movement.
  • the support element consists of a support surface for the weft end and a fork part for guiding the clamping thread.
  • the support element can be arranged rigidly or movably.
  • the support element must lie at the level of the binding point, i.e. the point of intersection between the mutually moving warp threads, so that the weft thread end is not significantly displaced by the reed movement, particularly in the case of a rigid support element.
  • weft thread If such a weft thread is inserted into a compartment formed by the warp threads, then it comes to rest on the support surface of the support element, the clamping thread being moved towards the support surface by the lifting device during the subsequent binding process, and thus holding the end of the weft thread. Since the weft end is held in place, the end of the thread can be relatively short. This reduces the weft waste.
  • the clamping thread is guided so that it rests with a certain tension on the weft end and thereby securely holds the weft end.
  • This tension of the clamping thread can result from the fact that the clamping thread is moved slightly below the contact surface during the lifting movement, so that it is angled in the area of the contact surface, or a special tension spring is provided which holds the clamping thread under such a tension. Finally, the tension of the clamping thread can also be brought about by the fact that the clamping thread is made of elastic material.
  • the support element With the movement of the reed, the support element also makes a corresponding movement, so that the weft thread is now struck on the fabric and a new weft thread entry can take place, the clamping thread having to be moved away from the support surface beforehand by the lifting device.
  • the support element In air-jet weaving machines that work with a confusor, the support element can lie in the intake duct on the fabric edge.
  • the design is such that the support surface extends transversely to the fork part at the fork foot and that the fork part extends in the lifting direction of the clamping thread.
  • the support surface can be trough-shaped in order to hold the weft thread end particularly securely, furthermore the support surface can be inclined slightly downward in the direction of the clamping thread so that when the support element moves in accordance with the movement of the reed the support surface does not come into contact with the parallel running warp threads and these may be damaged.
  • the lifting device for the clamping thread can be formed by a slot arranged on the frame rail of the leno selvedge device and by a thread lifter arranged on the filament guiding device of the leno selvedge device.
  • the lifting device can also be formed by two consecutive strands provided with slits, which are reciprocally moved in a manner known per se, so that in this case too, the clamping thread is either lifted by one strand or raised by the other strand , in which case the clamping thread is guided in the slot of the other strand.
  • the slots in which the clamping thread is guided need only have a corresponding length which enables this lifting movement.
  • Fig. 1, 1 denotes a spreader which holds the fabric produced on the weaving machine immediately after the binding, since the fabric has a tendency to contract somewhat after the weft thread has been drawn in.
  • the weft threads of the fabric are shown schematically and labeled 2. The warp threads are not shown in the drawing.
  • the weft end of the weft thread drawn in, for example, by the air intake method is held.
  • a support element designated as a whole with 3 and a clamping thread 4 are used.
  • the support element 3 has the support surface 3a and a fork part 5 (cf. also FIG. 3).
  • the clamping thread 4 which can be an endless thread that is guided over the deflection rollers 6 and 7, is guided in the slot 8 of the fork part 5.
  • the support element consists in particular of two metal strips 9 and 10, which are designed similar to a reed, the bearing surface 3a on the fork base extending transversely to the fork part 5.
  • the metal strips 9 and 10 are arranged at a distance, so that there is a slot 8.
  • Below the support surface 3a the metal strips are connected to one another by an intermediate piece 11, which does not end exactly at the height of the support surface 3a, but somewhat below, so that there is a recess in which the clamping thread 4 lies, so that it has a tendency to clamp the weft end there.
  • Fig. 5 shows a slightly different embodiment; there the support part is trough-shaped 12 in particular in the area of the clamping thread.
  • the support surface can be slightly inclined away from the clamping thread - as is known per se with reed bars - so that the warp threads of the fabric are not damaged when the support element moves in the direction of the fabric for the purpose of striking the weft thread.
  • the clamping thread 4 can exert a clamping effect
  • the clamping thread can be guided in such a way that it runs behind the contact surface 3a somewhat below the contact surface, as is indicated schematically by the line 13.
  • the same effect can also be achieved in that the clamping thread is under the action of a tension spring 14 in this area.
  • the lifting device designated overall by 15 is shown, which correspondingly moves the clamping thread 4 away from the support surface or towards the support surface.
  • FIGS. 6-9. An embodiment of such a lifting device is shown in FIGS. 6-9. Essentially, a slot 17 provided on a frame rail 16 of a conventional leno selvedge device serves as the lifting device. As is known, the thread guide device 18 is guided through the frame rails 16 and has the inclined slots 19 in which the leno thread is guided, the needle 19a guiding the upright thread.
  • the frame rails 16 and the thread guide device 18 are connected to one another via deflection rollers 19, so that when moving in the direction of arrow 20 the frame rails 16 run in opposite directions, i.e. can be moved in the direction of arrow 21.
  • FIG. 10 Another embodiment of a lifting device is shown in FIG. 10, where the lifting device is formed by stranded rails 23 and 24. These heddle rails have the slots 23a and 24a, and here too the clamping thread 4 is carried along when the heddle rails are reversed when it comes to rest in the end 25 of the slot 24a or 23a.
