Claims (9)

1. Flat knitting machine comprising a needle selection arrangement movable along its needle bed (1), knitting needles (3) arranged in needle channels (2) of the needle bed (1), and adjacent the knitting needles (3) in the needle channels (2), selector drivers or a tandem arrangement of working drivers (4) and selector drivers (5) which cooperate with the needle selection arrangement, characterised in that the width of the working driver (4) and/or selector driver (5) is smaller than the width of the needle channels (2), and in that in the needle channels (2), distance plates (9) are inserted and fixed on at least one side of the drivers (4, 5) and extend substantially along the length of the working drivers (4) and/or selector drivers (5) and have a width equal to the difference between the width of the needle channels (2) and the width of the working drivers (4) and/or selector drivers (5).

Flat knitting machine according to claim 1 characterised in that the width of the needle channels (2) and the knitting needles (3) is constructed according to the gauge of the flat knitting machine, in that the width of the working driver (4) and/or selector driver (5) is uniformly constant, and in that the width of the distance plates (9) is accordingly different for differing gauges of the flat knitting machine.
3. Flat knitting machine according to claim 1 or 2 characterised in that the surfaces of the distance plates (9) extend in and beneath the surfaces of the needle bed (1).
4. Flat knitting machine according to claim 1, 2 or 3 characterised in that in each case a single distance plate (9) is inserted along the length of the working driver (4) and selector driver (5) in the needle bed (2).

Flat knitting machine according to any one of the preceding claims characterised in that each distance plate (9) is fixed by form-fit against motion in the movement direction of the working driver (4) and/or selector driver (5) by means of a rail extending transversely of the needle channels (2) in the needle bed (1).
6. Flat knitting machine according to any one of the preceding claims characterised in that the distance plate (9) partially overlaps the knitting needles (3) in the region of the working or selector drivers (4).
7. Flat knitting machine according to any one of claims 1 to 6 characterised in that distance plates (9) are inserted on one side of the working driver (4) and/or selector driver (5).
8. Flat knitting machine according to any one of claims 1 to 6 characterised in that distance plates are inserted on both sides of the working driver (4) and/or selector driver (5).
9. Flat knitting machine according to any one of the preceding claims characterised in that with a gauge E3 of the flat knitting machine the width of the knitting needles (3) is 2,2 mm, the width of the working driver (4) and/or selector driver (5) is 1 mm and the width of the distance plates (9) is 1,2 mm.
