denen diese Maschinen in arktischen Regionen ausgesetzt
sind oder dann auftreten, wenn die Maschine während des
Fluges abgestellt wird. Die Maschinenhersteller und das Bedienungspersonal, das mit diesen Maschinen umgeht, fordern
ein Schmiermittel, das bei niederen Temperaturen eine
außergewöhnlich niedere Viskosität und gleichzeitig eine zufriedenstellende Schmierviskosität bei höheren Temperaturen
aufweist. In der Zeit von ungefähr 192K) bis 19£5>
wurden Esterschmiermittel in erster Linie für die frühen Turbomotoren
entwickelt. Die Entwicklung dieser Schmiermittel ist in Veröffentlichungen wie Zorn, "Esters as Lubricants11,

Bis vor kurzem flogen Luftfahrzeuge mit Turbinenstrahlantrieb bei Unterschallgeschwindigkeiten. Die Schmierung von Turbostrahltriebwerken war hierzu im allgemeinen
bei Verwendung von Diestern einer aliphatischen Diqarbon- ;
säure wie Di-2-äthylhexylsebacat zufriedenstellend. Die
nunmehr neuerdings in Dienst gestellten Flugzeuge oder

Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft einen synthetischen
Ester, der als Schmiermittel unter extremen Arbeitsbedingungen geeignet ist. Der Ester ist ein Gemisch von
Estern, die hauptsächlich aus im wesentlichen völlig veresterten Trimethylolpropanestern von Gemischen aliphatischer
C^- bis Cjg-Konocarbonsäuren und im wesentlichen
völlig veresterten Dipentaerythritestern von aliphatischen
Gn- bis O^Q-Monocarbonsäuren bestehen.
Genauer handelt es sich um ein Gemisch aus
(a) von ungefähr 1,5 bis 2,5 Teilen einen Trimethylolpropanester.

Monocarbonsäuren mit
(b) von ungefähr 0,75 bis 1,25 Teilen einem Dipentaerythritester
von einem Gemisch aliphatischer CL- bis C-Q-Monocarbonsäuren,

Schmiermittel, besondere in Turbomotoren und Turbostrahltriebwerken

Bestimmungen entsprechen,
zur Verfügung zu stellen.
Diese Ziele werden erreicht durch Bildung eines synthetischen Estergemischs ausi
(a) 1,5 bis 2,5 Gew.Teilen eines im wesentlichen völlig
veresterten Trimethylolpropanesters aus einem Gemisch von aliphatischen G^,- bis C^p-Monocarbonsäuren, wobei
die Durchschnittsanzahl der Kohlenstoffatome in dem Geraisch der G1,- bis C^2-Säuren von 6 bis 9 Kohlenstoffatome
beträgt und
(b) 0,75 t>is 1,25 Gew.Teilen eines im wesentlichen völlig
veresterten Dipentaerythriteßters aus einem Gemisch aliphatischer G^- bis C^-Monocarbonsäuren,, wobei
die Durchschnittsanzahl, der Kohlenstoffatome in dem Gemisch der C^- bis G^Q-Säuren von 5 bis 9 beträgt.
Trimethylolpropan (TMP) ist di® Verbindung 1,1,1-Trimethylol·
propan und Dipentaerythrit (DiPE) ist d®r aus zwei Molekülen

pentaerythrit und höheren Kondensationsprodukten von Pentaerythrit
können vorhanden sein.
In einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform bestehen die zur Veresterung zu dem Trimethylolpropanester verwendeten Säuren
zu wenigstens 90 Gew.# aus einem Gemisch, das im wesentlichen
Hexan-, Octan- und Decansäuren enthält,'und die zur Veresterung zu dem Dipentaerythritester verwendeten
Säuren zu wenigstens 90 Gew.% aus einem Gemisch, das im wesentlichen aus Pentan-, Hexan-, Octan- und Decansäuren
besteht. In einer weiteren Ausführungsform besteht der Säureanteil der Ester im wesentlichen aus normalen aliphatischen
Monocarbonsäuren· Unter "im wesentlichen normal" ist zu verstehen, daß der Hauptanteil, des Säuregemisohs
aus normalen oder geradkettigen Säuren besteht» Im allgemeinen
sind über 75# der Säuren und vorzugsweise über 90$
der aliphatischen Säuren normal*
In einer besondere bevorzugten Ausführungsform ist der Trimethylolpropanester ein im wesentlichen völlig veresterter
Trimethylolpropanester eines Gemische von im wesentliohen
normalen aliphatischen Monocarbonsäuren, das zu wenigstens 9Cl Gew.# aus einem Gemisch besteht, das inj wesentlichen von ungefähr 20 bis 50 Gew.# Hexansäuren, ungefähres bis 48 Gew.# Octansäuren und ungefähr 25 bis 35
# Decansäuren enthält und der Dipentaerythritester

ist ein im wesentlichen völlig veresterter Dipentaerythritester
aus einem Gemisch von im wesentlichen normalen aliphatischen Monocarbonsäuren, das wenigstens zu 90 Gew.%
aus einem Gemisch besteht, das im wesentlichen von ungefähr
30 bis 60 Gew.# Pentansäuren, ungefähr 8 bis 20 Gew.%
Hexansäuren, ungefähr 15 bis 32 Gew.# Ootansäuren und ungefähr 10 bis 25 Gew.# Decansäuren enthält.
Beiden synthetischen Esterkomponenten des Gemische werden
getrennt nach bekannten Verfahren hergestellt. Das gehinderte Polyol (Trimethylolpropan oder Dipentaerythrit) wird
im allgemeinen in geeigneten Verhältnissen mit dem gewünsehten aliphatischen Monocarbonsäuregemisch gemischt und
Veresterungsbedingungen unterworfen. Es sollten in dem
Säuregemisch genug Säureäquivalente vorhanden sein, um wenigstens im wesentlichen die gesamten Hydroxylreste in
dem Eölyol zu verestern» Es wird im allgemeinen ein geringer Überschuß des Säuregemischs verwendet, obwohl ein
großer Überschuß nicht empfohlen werden kann, weil er nach Beendigung der Veresterung oder wenn das Produkt eine zu ;
hohe Säurezahl aufweisen sollte, entfernt werden muß· Das Entfernen großer Mengen nicht umgesetzter Säuren ist nicht j
wirtschaftlich und außerdem sind Emulsionsbildungen schwie- '-.
rig. Im allgemeinen werden von 1 bis 1,25 Äquivalente Säuregemisch für jedej Hydroxyläquivalent des Polyols verwendet.
Wie oben festgestellt, werden die Ester in der Weise hergestellt, daß man das Polyol-Säuregemisch Veresterungsbedingungen
unterwirft. Unter Veresterungsbedingungen ist zu verstehen, daß die Reaktion unter dem Fachmann allgemein bekannten Bedingungen durchgeführt wird, um eine organische
Carbonsäure und einen Alkohol zu veranlassen, einen Ester unter Ausscheidung eines Moleküls Wasser zu
bilden. Sie wird im allgemeinen dadurch gefördert, daß man das Gemisch, das organische Garbonsäure und das Polyol enthält, erhitzte Eine Temperatur im Bereich von ungefähr 75
bis 3QO0C wird verwendet. Vorzugsweise wird die Reaktion
bei einer so hohen Temperatur durchgeführt, daß das gebildete
Wasser abdestilliert wird, aber nicht so hoch ist, daß der Zerfall der Reaktionspartner oder Produkte bewirkt wird.
Häufig wird die Entfernung des Wassers dadurch erleichtert, daß man ein wasserunlösliches azeotropes Lösungsmittel im
Reaktionsgemisch einverleibt. Zu geeigneten Lösungsmitteln gehören aliphatische oder aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe.
Die aromatischen Kohlenwasserstoffe wie Benzol, Toluol, Xylol, Mesitylen und dergleichen sind besonders brauchbar.
Wenn diese verwendet werden, wird die Veresterung im allgemeinen bei einem Siedepunkt des Gemische durchgeführt und
das Wasser aus dem Destillat mittels Phasenabtrennung entfernt. Das Lösungsmittel wird nach beendeter Veresterung
dem Reaktionsgemische wieder zugeführt. Wenn höhere Temperaturen

wendet werden, kann die Reaktion unter einem solchen Druck durchgeführt werden, daß der Siedepunkt des Gemischs auf
die gewünschte Reaktionstetnperatur gehoben wird«,
Die Veresterungsgeschwindigkeit kann durch Zugabe eines Veresterungskatalysators zu dem Gemisch erhöht werden.
Säure- bzw. saure Katalysatoren sind hierzu besonders brauch· bar. Zu diesen Katalysatoren gehören Schwefelsäure, Phosphorsäure,
p-Toluolsulfonsäure, Natriutnbisulfat, Kaliumbisulfat,
sulfonierte Polystyrol-saure-Ionenaustauscherharze
und dergleichen. Zu weiteren brauchbaren Ätalysatoren gehören
Ester von Titan oder Zirconium wie Tetraalkyltitanate
oder -zirconate (zum Beispiel Tetraäthyltitanat, Tetrabutyltitanat,
Tetra™n-~propylzirconat„ usw.,)«· Weiterhin
können Metalloxide wie Zinkoxid, Aluminiumoxid und dergleichen verwendet werden«, Die Katalysatorraenge ist nicht
kritisch, sollte aber ausreichend sein, um eine vernünftige Veresterungsgeschwindigkeit au förderno Ein brauchbarer

oder überschüssige aliphatische Carbonsäuren können dadurch entfernt werden, daß man den Ester, vorzugsweise
unter Vakuum,auf eine Temperatur erhitzt, die hoch genug
ist, sie abzudestillieren. Temperaturen von 100 bis 2500C
und Vakuum unter 50 Torr, vorzugsweise unter 10 Torr, sind
gewöhnlich ausreichend. Rückständige Säure kann dadurch entfernt werden, daß man den Ester mit einer wäßrigen Base
wie Natriumhydroxid oder Natriumcarbonat wäscht. Man kann
auch den Ester zuerst mit einer wäßrigen Base vor dem Abdestillieren
des Lösungsmittels waschen. Dieses zuletat
angegebene Verfahren ermöglicht, das rückständige Wasser
mit dein Lösungsmittel zu entfernen. Ein weiteres Trocknen
des Esters kann dadurch bewirkt werden, daß man diesen mit irgendeinem bekannten Trocknungsmittel wie wasserfreiem
Natriumsulfat behandelt. Es ist im allgemeinen wünschenswert, den Endester zur weiteren Behandlung mit einem Absorbensmaterial,
wie aktiviertem Ton, Aluminiumoxid oder Aktivkohle, zu behandeln, um üpurensäuren und andere Verunreinigungen zu entfernen*
Die zur Herstellung der Ester brauchbaren aliphatischen Monocarbonsäuregeinische sind Gemische von aliphatischen
Monocarbonsäuren, die im Falle der Trimethylolpropanester-
komponente von 4 bis 12 und im Falle der Dipentaerythritesterkomponente von 4 bis 10 Kohlenstoffatome pro Molekül
enthalten· Der Anteil der einzelnen Säuren in dem Gemisch

ist so eingestellt, daß, auf Molbasis bezogen, die Durchschnittsanzahl
der Kohlenstoffatome in dem verwendeten Säuregemisch zur Herstellung der Trimethylolpropanester
von 6 bis 9 und die Durchschnittsanzahl der Kohlenstoffatome in dem Säuregemisch zur Herstellung der Dipentaerythritester
von 5 bis 9 beträgt. Es hat beispielsweise ein Molgemisch von Hexan- und Octansäuren zu gleichen Teilen»
bezogen auf Molbasis, einen Durchschnitt von 7 Kohlenstoffatomen pro Molekül.
Die aliphatischen Monocarbonsäuren können gerade oder verzweigtkettig
sein. Zu Beispielen typischer Säuren, die zur Herstellung der Ester verwendet werden können,gehören:
n-Buttersäure, Isobuttersäure, 2-Methyl-n-buttersäure, 3-Methyl-n-buttersäure,
n-Pentansäure, 2-Methyl-n-pentansäure,
2-Äthyl-n-buttersäure, n- Hexansäure, 2-Methyl-nhexansäura,
2-Äthyl-n-pentanaäure, 3-Methyl-n-hexansäure,
n-Heptansäure, 2-Äthyl-n-hexansäure, 2-Methyl-n-heptansäure,

Die bevorzugten aliphatischen Monocarbonsäuren, die zur Herstellung der Ester verwendet werden, sind normale oder
geradkettige Säuren. Beispiele solcher Säuren sind n-Buttersäure,
η-Pentansäure, n-Hexansäure, n-Heptansäure, n-Octansäure,
n-Nonansäure, n-Decansäure, n-Undecansäure und n-Dodecansäure.
Die bevorzugtesten Ester der zur Herstellung des Trimethylolpropanesters verwendeten Säuren sind Gemische
von n-Hexansäure, n-Octansäure und n-Decansäure"
und besonders bevorzugte Säuren zur Herstellung des Dipentaerythritesters sind n-Pentansäure, n-Hexansäure, n-Octansäure
und n-Decansäure.
Der Anteil der verschiedenen, zur Herstellung der Estermischkomponenten verwendeten Säuren sollte derart sein,
daß im Falle des TMP-Esters die einzelnen Säuren von 4 bis
12 Kohlenstoffatome enthalten, sodaß die Durchschnittssäure, bezogen auf Molbasis, von 6 bis 9 Kohlenstoffatome
enthält und im Falle des DiPE-Esters die einzelnen Säuren
von 4 bis 10 Kohlenstoffatome enthalten, sodaß" die Durchschnittssäure, auf Molbasis bezogen, von 5 bis 9 Kohlenstoff atome enthält· Ein besonders bevorzugtes Gemisch von
Säuren zur Herstellung der im wesentlichen völlig veresterten
TMP-Mischkomponente ist ein Gemisch, das zu 90 Gew.#
aus einem Gemisch besteht, das im wesentlichen von 20 bis JO Gew.% Hexansäure, von 38 bis 48 Gew.# Octansäure und
von 25 bis 35 Gew.% Decansäure enthält. Ein besonders be-'

vorzugtes Gemisch von Säuren zur Herstellung der im wesentlichen
völlig veresterten DiPE-Mischkomponente ist ein Gemisch mit einem Gehalt von wenigstens 90 Gew.% eines Gemischs,
das im wesentlichen von 30 bis 60 Gew.°/o Pentansäure,
von 8 bis 20 Gew.°/o Hexansäure, von 15 bis 32 Gew.°/o Octansäure
und von 10 bis 25 Gew.% Decansäure enthält. Wie oben
angegeben, werden die besten Ergebnisse erhalten, wenn im wesentlichen die gesamten Säuren die Normalkonfiguration
aufweisen.
Die Menge der verwendeten Triraethylolpropanesterkomponente-
und der Dipentaerythritesterkomponente wird zur Herstellung des Gemischs so eingestellt, daß von 1,5 bis 2,5 Gew.Teile
Trimethylolpropanester für jeweils 0,75 bis 1,25 Teile Dipentyerythritester
verwendet werden. Estergemische mit überlegen physikalischen Eigenschaften werden im allgemeinen erhalten,
wenn von ungefähr 1t9 bis 2,2 Gew.Teile Triraethylolpropanester
für jeweils 0,9 bis 1,1 Gew.Teile Dipentyerythritester verwendet werden. Bei Verwendung dieses eng
definierten Verhältnisses Tritnethylolpropanester zu Dipentaerythritester
werden beste Ergebnisse erhalten, wenn die Trimethylolpropanesterkomponente ein im wesentlichen völlig
veresterter Trimethylolpropanester von einem.im wesentlichen
normalen aliphatischen Monocarbonsäuregemisch mit einem Gehalt von wenigstens 90 Gew.% eines Gemische ist,
das wenigstens ungefähr 20 bis 30 Gew.% Hexansäure, unge-

eines im wesentlichen normalen aliphatischen Monocarbonsäuregemischs,- das im wesentlichen von
ungefähr 24 bis 28 Gew.% Hexansäure, ungefähr 41 bis 45 Gew.% Octansäure und ungefähr 29 bis 33 Gew.% Decansäure
enthält,und von 0,9 bis 1,1 Gew.Teile eines im wesentlichen völlig veresterten Dipentaerythritesters eines im wesentlichen
normalen aliphatischen Monocarbonsäuregeraisohs,
das im wesentlichen von ungefähr 45 bis 55 Gew..# Pentansäure, ungefähr 11 bis 15 Gew.^ Hexansäure, ungefähr 18
bis 24 Gew.# Octansäure und ungefähr 13 bis 18 G©w„$

In einem Reaktionsgefäß, ausgestattet mit Äührwerk9 Thermometer,
üa?hitzungsraitteln und mit einer Dean-Stark-Wasserfalle,
wurden 67 Teile Trimethylolpropan, 235 Teile eines
Säuregemisehs eingebracht, das im wesentlichen aus 26 Gewo$
Hexansäureny 4-3 Gewo# Octansäuren und 31 Gewe# Decansauren
besteht* Die Säuren waren im wesentlichen normal«, Hierzu
wurden dann I70 Teile Xylol und 6 Teile rjatriumbisulfat
zugegeben» Das Gemisch wurde 8 Stunden am Rückfluß gehalten, wobei während dieser Zeit das im Abscheider gesammelte
Wasser entfernt wurdeβ Zu diesem Zeitpunkt wies die Infrarotanalyse einen Hydroxylgehalt von unter 0,1$ aus9 was
die beendete Yeresterung anzeigto Das Gemisch wurde dann
gekühlt, mit einem gleichen Volumen Petroläther verdünnt,
zweimal mit 1Obigem Alkali und dann mit Masser bis zur

zur Herstellung der Estergemische dieser Erfindung.
In das in Beispiel 1 verwendete Eeaktionsgefaß wurden
220 Teile n-Pentansäure und 220 !Teile eines Gemische, das
im wesentlichen 26 Gew.% Hexansäuren, 43 Gew.# OGtansäuren
und 31 Gew.% Decansäuren enthält, eingebracht. Die Säuren

waren im wesentlichen insgesamt normal. Zu diesem Gemisch ^
wurden 143 Teile Dipentaerythrit und 2 Teile p-Toluolsulfonsäure
in 180 Teilen Xylol zugegeben. Das Gemisch wurde 72 Stunden am Rückfluß gehalten, wobei während dieser
Zeit Wasser kontinuierlich in der Wasserfalle entfernt wurde.. Nach dieser Zeit zeigte die Infrarotanalyse einen
geringeren Hydroxyigehalt als 0,1 Gew.#. Das Gemisch wurde
dann gekühlt, mit einem gleichen Volumen Petroläther verdünnt,
zweimal mit 10$ Alkali und dann mit Wasser bis zur
Neutralität gewaschen. Es wurde dann über wasserfreiem M Calciumsulfat getrocknet und filtriert. Der P.etroläther
wurde bei einer !Flüssigkeitstemperatur von ungefähr 100°C
abdestilliert und das verbleibende flüchtige Material durch Erhitzen auf ungefähr 1300G bei einem Vakuum von
0,25 Torr entfernt. Zuletzt wurde das Produkt filtriert,
wodurch man einen DiPE-Mischansatz erhielt, der zur Herstellung
der Estergemische dieser Erfindung geeignet war.

Dieses Beispiel zeigt die Herstellung einer TMP-Estergemischkomponente
ohne Verwendung eines Katalysators.
Dem Reaktionsgefäß von Beispiel 1 wurden 134 Teile TMP
und 475 Teile eines im wesentlichen normalen Säuregemischs,
das im wesentlichen aus 26 Gew«$ Hexansäuren, 43 Gew.%
Octansäuren und 31 Gew.% Decansäuren bestand, eingebracht.
Das Gemisch wurde schnell auf 1880O und dann langsam auf
2400O erhitzt, wobei während dieser Zeit Wasser in der Wasserfalle
entfernt wurde. Das Erhitzen wurde 8 Stunden bei einer Temperatur von 240 bis 250 0 fortgesetzt, wobei nach
dieser Zeit die Infrarotanalyse zeigte, daß der Hydroxyl»
gehalt geringer als 0,5 Gew.$ war« Das Gemisch wurde gekühlt,
mit 400 Teilen Hexan verdünnt und mit wäßrigem Alkali gewaschen. Es wurde dann mit Wasser,bis es neutral war,
gewaschen und über wasserfreiem Calciumsulfat getrocknet. Es wurde filtriert und das Hexan und die anderen flüchtigen
Bestandteile wurden durch Erhitzen und dann durch Verringern des Drucks unter langsamem Erhitzen auf 1JO0O und Senken
des Drucks auf ungefähr 0,5 Torr entfernt.
Dieses Beispiel erläutert die Herstellung einer DiPE-Estermischkomponente
ohne die Verwendung eines Katalysators,

Dem Reaktionsgefäß von Beispiel 1 wurden 59,33 Teile Dipentaerythrit,
165 Teile eines im wesentlichen normalen öäuregemischs, das im wesentlichen aus 50. Gew.$_Pentansäuren,
13 Gew.°/> Hexansäuren, 21,5 Gew.% Octansäuren und
16,5 Gew.$ Decansäuren bestand, zugeführt. Unter Rühren
wurde das Gemisch schnell auf 165°C und dann während einer
Zeitdauer von 2,25 Stunden auf 233°C erhitzt, während kontinuierlich
Wasser in der Wasserfalle entfernt wurde. Das Gemisch wurde dann langsam während der folgenden 5 Stunden
auf 2440C erhitzt, wonach die Infrarοtanalyse zeigte, daß
die Veresterung beendet war. Es wurde dann gekühlt, mit 100 Teilen Hexan verdünnt und mit 1Obigem wäßrigem Alkali
gewaschen. Es wurde dann mit Wasser gewaschen bis es neutral war und über wasserfreiem Natriumsulfat getrocknet.
Das Gemisch wurde dann filtriert und Hexan und die anderen
flüchtigen Bestandteile wurden durch Erhitzen auf 130 C bei 0,5 Torr abdestilliert. Das Endprodukt wurde mit einem
Gemisch von aktiviertem Aluminiumoxid und Bleichkohle behandelt und dann durch einen Filter, das eine "Celite"-Filtereinlage
enthielt, filtriert. Das Produkt ist ein brauchbarer Mischansatz für die Estergemische dieser Erfindung.
Weitere völlig veresterte TMP- und DiPE-Mischkomponenten
können leicht nach den oben angegebenen Verfahren hergehst eilt werden, wozu man einfach die Mengen und Arten der

verwendeten aliphatischen Monocarbonsäuren innerhalb der,
bereits beschriebenen Parameter ändert.
In ein Glas-ausgekleidetes Reaktionsgefäß wurden 9,4 Teile
Trimethylolpropan, 2,15 Teile Xylol und 32,9 Teile Säuregemiseh,
das im wesentlichen aus 26 Gew'o# n-Hexansäure,
4-3 Gew.% n-Octansäure und 31 Gew.% n-Decansäure bestand,
eingebracht.. Das Gemisch wurde am Rückfluß (15O0G) unter
Rühren erhitzt und 7 Stunden am Rückfluß gehalten, während Wasser aus dem Destillat entfernt wurde« Die Temperatur
erreicht 2510O, Es wurde dann gekühlt und mit 30 Teilen
Hexan verdünnt. Dann wurde es mit 10 Teilen eines 10$igen
wäßrigen Alkali und ein zweites Mal mit 5 Teilen eines 10#igen wäßrigen Alkali gewaschen» Es wurde dann mit Wasser
gewaschen, bis es neutral war, über 5 Teilen wasserfreiem Natriumsulfat getrocknet und filtriert« Dann wurden 0,5
Teile aktiviertes Aluminiumoxid zugegeben und das Gemisch 10-Minuten gerührt. Die flüchtigen Bestandteile wurden bei
einer Flüssigkeitstemperatur von 1600C bei 73 Torr abdestilliert.
Zuletzt wurde der Ester filtriert, wodruch man eine brauchbare TMP-Estermischkomponente erhielt.
In ein mit Glas ausgekleidetes Reaktionsgefäß wurden 6, $6

Säuregemischs, das im wesentlichen aus 50 Gew.% n-Pentansäure,
13 Gew.% n-Hexansäure, 21,5 Gew.# n-Octansäure und
15,5 Gew.# n-Decansäure bestand, eingebracht. Das Gemisch
wurde am Rückfluß (15O0C) unter Rühren erhitzt und der
RücMluß 11 Stunden fortgesetzt, während kontinuierlich
Wasser aus dem Destillat entfernt wurde. Die Temperatur erreichte 2450C. Das Gemisch wurde dann gekühlt und4it
16,5 Teilen Hexan verdünnt. Es wurde mit 8 Teilen 10#igem
wäßrigem Alkali (Natriumhydroxid) und ein zweites Mal mit 4 Teilen 10#igem wäßrigem Alkali gewaschen. Dann, wurde mit
Wasser gewaschen, bis das Gemisch neutral war, und es wurde dann über 5 Teilen wasserfreiem Natriumsulfat getrocknet
und filtriert. Hexan wurde bei einer Temperatur von 129°C
abdestilliert und dann wurden 0,25 Teile aktiviertes Aluminiumoxid zugegeben. Die Destillation der flüchtigen Teile
wurde bis zu 1400C fortgesetzt, während der Druck auf 4
Torr verringert wurde. Ein Endfiltrieren lieferte eine
brauchbare DiPE-Estermischkomponente.
Die einzelnen TMP- und DiPE-Esterraischkomponenten können
nach den allgemeinen Verfahren der Beispiele 3 und 4, jedoch
unter verschiedenen in den nachfolgenden Tabellen aufgezeigten Säuregemischen hergestellt werden. Die verwendete
Säuremenge beruht auf der Verwendung von 134 Teilen
TMP in der TMP-Estertabelle und 136 Teilen DiPE in der
DiPE-Estertabelle. Die aliphatischen Monocarbonsäuren sind

In ähnlicher Weise können viele andere brauchbare Estergeraische dadurch erhalten werden, daß andere Kombinationen der in der vorausgehenden Tabelle aufgezeigten TMP-
und DiPE-Ester gemischt werden. In gleicher Weise können
weitere brauchbare Ester erhalten werden, wenn man die Menge des Esters von jedem Typ innerhalb dem Bereich von
1,5 bis 2,5 Teilen TMP-Ester für jeweils 0,75 bis 1,25 Ie DiPE-Ester ändert.

Estergemische, deren Herstellung hier beschrieben wurde, haben physikalische Eigenschaften, die sie ideal zur Verwendung
als Schmiermittel für· Strahltriebwerke geeignet machen. Die Air Force MIL-L-23699-A Spezifikationen fordern:.
Viskosität bei 21Q0F (98,90O), 5 bis 5,5 es; Viskosität bei 1000F (37,80C), größer als 25 es und Viskosität
bei -400F (-400C), 13 000 es max. Von den hergestellten
Gemischen wurden die in der nachfolgenden Tabelle angegebenen physikalischen Eigenschaften festgestellt.

den -Estern zugemischt werden. Typische Beispiele dieser
Additive sind später angegeben.
Weitere Gemische der in den Beispielen 1 bis 6 hergestellten
Ester werden leicht dadurch hergestellt, daß man die Ester in den voraus beschriebenen Verhältnissen mischt.
Es wurden Versuche durchgeführt, um die Stabilität der
Estergemische dieser Erfindung unter Hochtemperabur-oxidativen
Bedingungen aufzuzeigen. Diese Versuche, "Oxidative Stabilitätsuntersuchungen" bezeichnet, werden in der Weise
durchgeführt, daß man zunächst das Esterschmiermittel in der Weise formuliert, daß es 0,8 Gew.% Dioctyldiphenylamin,
0,8 Gew.«^ Phenyl-oc-naphthylamin, -0,04 .Gew.# Benzotriazol
und 2,0 Gew.^ Tricresylphosphat enthalte Dann werden 100 ml JProben in Testbehälter mit Kupfer- und Stahlplättchen
gelogt, oie werden auf 204°0 (4OQ0F) erhitzt und
Luft wird durch die.Flüssigkeit mit 5 1/Std. 72 Stunden
geperlt. Danach wird der Gewichtsverlust der Abschnitt©
und ebenso die Säurezahl, die Viskositätserhöhung, das Aussehen und der Gehalt an Peritan-unlösiichen Stoffen bestimmt.
Mit den oben gemischten Esterschmiermitteln vmrdsn.
die nachfolgenden'Ergebnisse erhalten.

Phosphonate wie Tri-n-butylphosphat, Tri-(2-äthylhexyl)-phosphat,
Triraethylcyclohexylphosphat, Tri-butylphosphonat,
Tri-(ß-chlorisopropyl)-phosphonat und dergleichen.
Silicone wie Dimethylsilicon, Diäthylsilicon und der-gleichen
werden in geringen Mengen von ungefähr 1 bis 50 ppm
zur Schauminhibierung verwendet. ·
Die folgenden Beispiele erläutern das Mischen von Schmiermitteln
für Turbomotoren unter Verwendung der Ester dieser
Erfindung.
In ein Mischgefäß werden 100 Teile Ester Nr. 1 von Tabelle
IV gegeben. Hierzu wird zugegeben 1 Teil Phenyl-a-naphthylamin,
1 Teil Dioctyldiphenylamin, 0,1 Teil ^ettsäuresalz
von I-Salicylalaminoguanidin, 0,02 Teile 1,4—Dihydroxyanthrachinon,
5 Teile Tricresylphosphat und 5 ppm» bezogen
auf die Gesamtmenge, Dimethylsilicon. Das Gemisch wird gerührt, bis es homogen,ist, und dann durch ein feines Filter
filtriert, wodurch man ein Esterschmiermittel erhält, das zur Schmierung von Turbinenlagern geeignet ist.
Man bringt in ein Mischgefäß 1000 Teile Ester Nr. 2 aus
Tabelle IV, 50 Teile Trioresylphosphat, JO Teile 3,.7-Di-

octylphenothiazin, 1 Teil Chinizarin und 0,05 Teile Dimebhylsilicon.
Das Gemisch wird gerührt bis es homogen ist und dann filtriert, wodurch man ein geeignet formuliertes
Esberschmiermittel erhält.
Man bringt in ein Mischgefäß 1000 Teile Ester Mr«, ^ aus
Tabelle IV, 10 Teile Phenyl-a-naphthylamin, 10 Teile Dioctyldiphenylamin,
5 Teile Benzotriazol und 20 Teile Tricresylphosphat. Das Gemisch wird gerührt bis es homogen ist
und filtriert, wodurch man ein synthetisches Schmiermittel erhält, das zur Verwendung in Turbinenißasüchinen geeignet
ist.
Obgleich die hier beschriebenen Estergeniische hauptsäch_ lieh als Üchmiermittel für Turbinenmotoren geeignet sind,
sind sie ebenso für andere Verwendungen von besonderer Bedeutung. So werden sie beispielsweise leicht durch Fettsäureseifen,
wie Alkali— oder Erdalkalimetallstearate, unter Bildung synthetischer Esterfette eingedickt. Die
Zugabe von ungefähr 10 bis 20 Gew.# Lithiumstearat zu dem

zugibt, erhält man ein brauchbares flexibles Produkt.
"Die erfindungsgemäßen Estergemisehe sind ebenso brauchbar
für "verschiedene SpezialVerwendungen, die eine Flüssigkeit
fordern, die nicht friert und gute Flieiieigenschaften über
einen weiten Temperaturbereich beibehält. Beispielsweise können sie als Dämpfungsflüssigkeiten in Instrumenten verwendet
werden, die bewegliche Teile haben, die eine Dämpfung notwendig machen, wie beispielsweise bei Kompassen« Sie
können ebenso als Flüssigkeit in hydraulischen Stoßdämpfern verwendet werden. Ein weiteres Beispiel ihrer Verwendung
ist ihre Anwendung für Wasserwaagen.
Geeignete automatische Transmissionsflüssigkeiten werden leicht aus den Estergemischen dadurch formuliert, daß ein
Antioxidationsmittel wie Phenyl-ß-naphthylamin, ein Abriebmittel
wie Tricresylphosphat und eine geringe Menge Methylsilicon als Schaummittel zugegeben wird.
Die Ester können weiterhin zur Schmierung von Verbrennungsmotoren, sowohl für Zündungs- als auch Dieselmotoren verwendet
werden. Für diese Verwendung können sie als einziger
Basisansatz verwendet werden oder sie können mit Mineralschinierölen
gemischt werden, wodurch man die gewünschten Eigenschaften unter geringsten Kosten erhalt·. Bei'dieser

Verwendung können typische Additive wie Zinkdialkyldi- . thiophosphate, Calcirnnsulfonate, Bariumsalze von phosphos?-
sulfurisierten Olefinen hohen Molekulargewichts und Dispergiermittel wie Hochmolekulargewicht-Alkenylsuccinimide
und -succinamide von Athylenpolyaminen wie Tetraäthylenpentamin
und Gemischen derselben zugegeben werden.
Claims (3)
1. Gemische synthetischer Ester, die zum Mischen mit
einem oder mehreren an sich bekannten Additives wie Antioxidationsmittel, Metallpassivatoren, Hochdruckabriebmittel und Schauminhibitoren geeignet sind, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie
a) 1,5 bis 2,5 Gew.Teile eines im wesentlichen vollständig veresterten Trimethylolpropanesters aus
einem Gemisch von aliphatischen Ch- C1~-Monocarbonsäuren,
wobei die Durchschnittszahl der Kohlenstoffatome in dem Gemisch der Ch-C^-S^uren von 6 bis
9 beträgt und
b) 0,75 bis 1,25 Gew.Teile eines im wesentlichen vollständig
veresterten Dipentaerythriteaters aus einem Gemisch von aliphatischen Ch-C^Q-Monocarbonsäuren,
wobei die Durchschnittszahl der Kohlenstoffatome in dem Gemisch der C^-C^Q-Säuren von 5 bis 9 beträgt,
aufweisen.
2. Gemische synthetischer Ester nach Anspruch 1 dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
a) das Geraisch der Cjj-C^-S&^en zu wenigstens 90
aus einem Gemisch von Hexan-, Octan-und.Decansäuren
besteht und

b) das Gemisch der C^-C^-Säuren aus wenigstens 90
