It is the object of the invention to provide the electrotechnical and electronic industry and other users laminates based on flat substrates and modified phenolic resins, which are cold stampable and have a high flame resistance and with which all standardized quality parameters are achieved. You should have a low brittleness with sufficient flexibility also cold stampability, low water absorption, good Lötbadbeständigkeit and good electrical insulation properties. The process for producing the laminates should be technologically simple and feasible on the existing systems.
The object of the invention is the development of cold stampable, flame-resistant laminates containing nitrogen chemically bound as a flame retardant component of a phenolic resin in such a form that an ordered macromolecular structure is built up during curing of the impregnated sheet carrier material, in which the nitrogen-containing component is inserted regularly ,
The cold-pressable, flame-resistant laminates according to the invention for the electrical and electronics industry, which conform to the classification V1 or VO of the standard UL 94, use for the impregnation of the sheet carrier modified phenolic resins, in addition to the usual additives such as tris-aryl phosphates and / or brominated flame retardants / Synthetic polymeric flexibilizers and solvents as a particular modifying component soluble N-hydroxybenzyl derivatives of nitrogen compounds derived from the carbonic acid. Such compounds are preferably the melamine and the dicyandiamide, but are also suitable others such. As the guanidine or dimethylurea.
The molar ratio of the nitrogen-containing carbonic acid derivatives to the phenolic component is 0.1-0.4, depending on the desired nitrogen content.
The N-hydroxybenzyl derivatives of the nitrogen compounds are not prepared as pure products but as part of a mixture with phenol bodies carrying hydroxymethyl groups. For this purpose, first of all formaldehyde (as a 30-40% solution in water) is mixed with a molar ratio of 10-12 to 10. Suitable phenols are the phenol itself, the commercial cresols with a minimum content of 40% of the meta-isomer, as well as with wood oil alkylated phenol or cresol. The mixture is heated to 360K. When this temperature is reached, a basic catalyst is added which initiates the addition of formaldehyde to the phenol to give hydroxymethyl groups. The measure of adding the catalyst only at 360 K avoids the formation of dimethylene ether structures in which the hydroxymethyl groups required for the following reaction step are partially consumed. The catalyst should be selected so that the condensation of the hydroxymethyl groups to form methylene bridges takes place only to the smallest possible extent. Such catalysts are for. As magnesium oxide, barium hydroxide and triethylamine. The amount of catalyst should be chosen to adjust to a pH of 5.5-7.5, preferably 6.0-6.5. The reaction mixture is kept boiling until the content of free formaldehyde has dropped below 1%. It is then cooled rapidly to 340 K and added 1-4 moles of the nitrogen compound. It will be so 1 ! 340 K condenses until the nitrogen compound has dissolved and a clear solution has formed. It contains 1-4 moles of the N-hydroxybenzyl derivative of the nitrogen compound and 9-6 carrying hydroxymethyl phenol body. By applying a vacuum of 5-10 kPa, the distilling off of the water is initiated. The temperature of the solution drops rapidly to about 315 K, but should increase towards the end of the dewatering for a short time up to 350 K.
To the dehydrated viscous product are admixed the known solvents and modifying components to obtain an impregnating solution containing, based on 1 mole of the N-hydroxybenzyl derivative of the nitrogen compound, the following components:
• 1,5—9 Mol Phenolkörper, die überwiegend Hydroxymethylgruppen tragen und gegebenenfalls mit Holzöl alkyliert sind,1.5-9 moles of phenol bodies which predominantly carry hydroxymethyl groups and are optionally alkylated with wood oil,
• 150—300 g Tris-arylphosphate wie z. B. Tricresylphosphat oder Diphenylcresylphosphat• 150-300 g of tris-arylphosphate such. B. tricresyl phosphate or diphenylcresyl phosphate
• 0-100 g organische Bromverbindungen wie bromierte Diphenylether oderTetrabromdian, vorzugsweise Pentabromdiphenylether0-100 g of organic bromine compounds such as brominated diphenyl ethers or tetrabromodian, preferably pentabromodiphenyl ether
• 100—400 g Lösungsmittel, vorzugsweise Methanol, Ethanol, Methylglykol und/oder Toluen100-400 g of solvent, preferably methanol, ethanol, methyl glycol and / or toluene
• 0-250 g synthetische polymere Flexibilisatoren wie z. B. Polyvinylbutyral oder Butadien-Acrylnitril-Copolymere.0-250 g of synthetic polymeric flexibilizers such as As polyvinyl butyral or butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymers.
It is common practice to use mixtures of resoles for the impregnation of sheet-like support materials, which differ in terms of their degree of condensation and their hydrophilicity. This is also applicable to the laminates of the invention. The impregnation mixture described above can be further commercially available resoles, for. B. wood oil modified resoles, ammonia resoles or magnesium oxide resoles in a ratio of 1 to 1 -1.5 be admixed. The impregnation of the reinforcements can be carried out in one step on the usual in industrial practice continuous impregnation and drying equipment, but also the combination with a Vorimprägnierstufe is possible. The reactivity of the impregnating mixtures according to the invention is so high that it is possible to work on continuous systems with high throughput speeds.
Cellulosic papers, preferably the cotton interleaf, but also glass or synthetic fiber fleeces and corresponding fabrics can be used as the sheet-like support materials. The resulting prepreg material is cut in the usual manner and pressed according to the desired thickness required number of layers under pressure and at elevated temperature. In this case, an adhesive-coated copper foil can be laminated in the same operation. The introduction of chemically bonded nitrogen in the laminates achieved with the preparation according to the invention produces a high resistance to fouling. The fire behavior corresponds to the level V1, with more than 3-4% nitrogen of the level VO. The oxygen index reaches values of 30 and 33%, respectively. If the impregnation mixture is prepared without the addition of bromine compounds, no gases with a corrosive action will be produced in the event of a fire. If bromine compounds are added, the laminates already have a content of about 1%, ie. H. an extremely low addition of bromine compounds, the flame retardance VO on.
It was not easy to expect that a laminate produced according to the invention has high-quality properties. The action of formaldehyde or phenol resins containing hydroxybenzyl alcohols on melamine or dicyandiamide rapidly gives rise to insoluble products. Melamine-containing resins usually cure much faster than phenolic resins, so that the formation of a useful polymeric matrix was initially questionable.
The low water absorption and the other good characteristics of the laminates prove that the organic nitrogen compound with the phenol and formaldehyde molecules are linked to a regular macromolecular structure.
