背景技术
已经开发了诸如液晶显示装置(LCD)、场致发射显示器(FED)和等离子体显示装置之类的平板显示器。与其它类型的平板显示器相比,平板显示器中的等离子体显示装置具有更好的量度、发光效率和更宽的视角。因此,在诸如尺寸大于40英寸的显示装置之类的大屏幕显示装置方面,已经将等离子体显示器认为是常规阴极射线管(CRT)的替代品。
直流(DC)等离子体显示装置具有非绝缘地暴露在放电空间的电极,由此在向电极施加电压期间使电流直接流过放电空间。因此,该DC等离子体显示装置(PDP)的问题在于它需要用于限制电流的电阻。另一方面,交流(AC)等离子体显示装置具有覆盖了绝缘层的电极,这形成了限制电流的自然电阻部件并在放电期间保护电极以免受到离子冲击。结果,由于AC等离子体显示装置具有更长的寿命,因此它比DC等离子体显示装置具有优势。

发明内容
本发明的实施例提供具有减少闪烁的特征的等离子体显示装置及其驱动方法。
等离子体显示装置的驱动方法的示例性实施例将帧分为多个子场,将多个子场被分为第一子场组和第二子场组并驱动子场。在等离子体显示板中的多个放电室可以分为第一行组和第二行组。在一个实施例中,第一子场具有第一权重的维持周期,并且第二子场具有大于第一子场的第一权重的第二权重的维持周期。第二子场的权重在第一子场组的权重顺序中与第一子场的权重相邻。在第一和第二子场时期中,重置放电室,寻址对应于第一行组的放电室并产生第一维持放电,并且寻址对应于第二行组的放电室并产生第二维持放电。第三子场具有第三权重,并且第四子场具有大于第三权重、且在第二子场组的权重顺序中与第三子场的权重相邻的第四权重。在第三和第四子场时期中,重置放电室,寻址对应于第二行组的放电室并产生第三维持放电。寻址对应于第一行组的放电室并产生第四维持放电。

PDP 100包括沿列方向的多个寻址电极A1到Am和沿行方向的多个维持电极X1到Xn和扫描电极Y1到Yn。形成维持电极X1到Xn以对应于扫描电极Y1到Yn,并且它们的第一端相互公共地耦合。此外,PDP 100包括在其上布置维持和扫描电极X1到Xn和Y1到Yn的基板(未示出)和在其上布置寻址电极A1到Am的基板(未示出)。这两个基板相互面对,并且在它们之间存在间隙,使得维持电极X1到Xn和扫描电极Y1到Yn中的每一个与寻址电极A1到Am交叉。放电空间存在于寻址电极A1到Am和维持与扫描电极X1到Xn和Y1到Yn的交叉区域。这些元件组合形成放电室。上述PDP 100示出本发明一个实施例,然后驱动方法可以应用到其它类型和配置的显示板。
在一个实施例中,控制器200可以接收外部视频信号并输出寻址电极驱动控制信号、维持电极驱动控制信号和扫描电极驱动控制信号。此外,控制器200将一帧分为多个子场并驱动子场。在本例中,控制器200将多个子场分为两组并向两组子场提供相同的子场权重方案以便抑制闪烁的产生。根据将行分类为奇数行或偶数行的分类,在各个子场中驱动对应于紧随扫描电极Y1到Yn的水平行的放电室的行。根据子场的布置顺序交替驱动奇数行和偶数行。
寻址电极驱动器300从控制器200接收寻址电极驱动控制信号,并且将用于选择要显示的放电室的显示数据信号施加到合适的寻址电极。扫描电极驱动器从控制器200接收扫描电极驱动控制信号,并且将驱动电压提供到扫描电极。维持电极驱动器500从控制器200接收维持电极驱动控制信号,并且将驱动电压施加到维持电极。
将参照图4到图7描述根据本发明示例性实施例的用于布置子场权重以减少闪烁并驱动等离子体显示装置的方法。
图4显示根据本发明示例性实施例的子场权重值的布置。在图4中的***数字表示各个子场(SF1、SF2、...、SF1’、SF2’、...、SF8’)的权重。
一帧的子场权重的布置分为两个子场组G1’和G2’,子场组G1’和G2’的每一个中的子场具有相同的权重。以{1SF1、2SF2、4SF3、8SF4、16SF5、32SF6、64SF7、128SF8}的顺序布置第一子场组G1’的子场权重值,并且以{1(SF1’)、2(SF2’)、4(SF3’)、8(SF4’)、16(SF5’)、32(SF6’)、64(SF7’)、128(SF8’)}的顺序布置第二子场组G2’的子场权重值。在两个子场组G1’和G2’的每一个中的子场权重相同,例如,分配给第一子场组G1’的子场SF1的子场权重1对应于分配给第二子场组G2’的子场SF1’的子场权重1。在一个实施例中,第一子场组G1’的子场SF2、SF4、SF6和SF8寻址并驱动偶数行(在图4中标记为‘E’),并且子场SF1、SF3、SF5和SF7寻址并驱动奇数行(在图4中标记为‘O’)。此外,第二子场组G2’的子场SF1’、SF3’、SF5’和SF7’寻址并驱动偶数行(在图4中标记为‘E’),并且子场SF2’、SF4’、SF6’和SF8’寻址并驱动奇数行(在图4中标记为‘O’)。在两个子场组G1’和G2’的每一个中具有相同权重的子场中,子场之一寻址并驱动奇数行,而另一个寻址并驱动偶数行。第一子场组G1’的子场根据子场的顺序交替寻址并驱动奇数行和偶数行。第二子场组G2’的子场也根据子场的顺序交替寻址并驱动奇数行和偶数行。在另一实施例中,与图4不同,可以改变第一子场组G1’的子场中寻址的奇数行和偶数行的顺序。此外,还可以改变第二子场组G2’的子场中寻址的奇数行和偶数行之间的顺序。
图4所示的的子场数是16,然而16大于一帧的常规子场数。在一个实施例中,与常规重置周期相比,重置周期加倍。可以相对减少维持周期,因而与常规显示板相比面板的亮度下降。
将参照图5描述用于在两个子场之间共享重置周期并驱动子场的方法。两个子场具有重置周期R、偶数行寻址周期AE、第一维持周期S1、奇数行寻址周期Ao和第二维持周期S2。在一个实施例中,在两个维持周期S1和S2中施加相同尺寸和持续时间的维持脉冲,使得每一个具有相同的权重n。
在重置周期,重置放电室来为寻址做好准备。在偶数行寻址周期AE中,在偶数行产生寻址放电来执行寻址操作。在第一维持周期S1中,维持放电在寻址周期AE选择的放电室来表示权重n。在第一维持周期S1后,提供奇数行寻址周期Ao而不提供重置周期。在奇数行寻址周期Ao期间,在奇数行产生寻址放电来执行寻址操作。在该实施例中,在第二维持周期S2期间,施加对应于权重n的维持脉冲。在第二维持周期S2期间,除了在奇数行寻址周期Ao寻址的奇数行外,再次维持放电在偶数行寻址周期Ao寻址并在第一维持周期S1维持放电的偶数行。因此,在第一维持周期S1和第二维持周期S2施加对应于权重n的维持脉冲。使用权重2n表示偶数行并使用权重n表示奇数行。因此,使用单个重置周期就可以实现相邻子场。本领域技术人员将会理解用于实现重置周期R、偶数行寻址周期AE、第一维持周期S1、奇数行寻址周期Ao和第二维持周期S2的方法。
在一个实施例中,参照图5描述的方法可以应用到第一子场组G1’中的相邻第一和第二子场SF1和SF2。对应于权重1的维持脉冲可以施加在第一维持周期S1和第二维持周期S2中。可以在第一维持周期S1和第二维持周期S2期间在偶数行产生维持放电来表示具有权重2的第二子场SF2。在第二维持周期S2期间在奇数行产生维持放电来表示具有权重1的第一子场SF1。以相同方式,通过在第一维持周期S1和第二维持周期S2中使用成比例的持续时间,权重4可以分配到第一子场组G1’中的相邻第三和第四子场SF3和SF4。通过在第一维持周期S1和第二维持周期S2中使用成比例的持续时间,权重16可以分配到第五和第六子场SF5和SF6。通过在第一维持周期S1和第二维持周期S2中使用成比例的持续时间,权重64可以分配到第七和第八子场SF7和SF8。此外,通过改变图5的偶数行和奇数行之间的寻址顺序可以实现第二子场组G2’的子场。可以以重置周期R、奇数行寻址周期Ao、第一维持周期S1、偶数行寻址周期AE和第二维持周期S2的顺序布置这些周期。以与第一子场组G1’相同的方式,通过维持周期实现权重n。
图6显示将图5方法应用到图4的子场的实施例。在奇数行寻址周期之前并在第一子场组G1’的重置周期之后提供偶数行寻址周期。在偶数行寻址周期之前并在第二子场组G2’的重置周期之后提供奇数行寻址周期。此外,当相邻子场具有单个重置周期R时,在两个维持周期期间分配的权重对应于分配给整个子场的权重。
图7显示根据本发明示例性实施例的用于子场布置的灰度级表和驱动方法。为了便于描述,图7显示用于预定灰度级的灰度级表。
在一个实例中,可以选择第一子场组G1’的第一子场SF1来表示在奇数行上的放电室中的灰度级1,并且可以选择第二子场组G2’的第一子场SF1’来表示在偶数行上的放电室中的灰度级1。在另一实例中,可以选择第一子场组G1’的第一子场SF1和第二子场组G2’的第二子场SF2’来表示在奇数行上的放电室中的灰度级3。可以选择第一子场组G1’的第二子场SF2和第二子场组G2’的第一子场SF1’来表示在偶数行上的放电室中的灰度级3。参照图7,当在奇数行和偶数行上表示相同灰度级时,在第一子场组G1’和第二子场组G2’期间,在相对于时间的相同点上发光。
图8显示当在偶数行放电室中表示灰度级10并当在奇数行放电室中表示灰度级10时的发光点。参照图7,当在偶数行上的放电室表示灰度级10时,在第一子场组G1’的第二子场SF2和第四子场SF4期间发光。当在奇数行上的放电室表示灰度级10时,在第二子场组G2’的第二子场SF2’和第四子场SF4’期间发光。因此,在图8所示的点上发光,特别地,在第一子场组G1’和第二子场组G2’的相同点上发光。此外,相同灰度级表示在关于全部灰度级的奇数行和偶数行上时,在两个子域组G1’和G2’中的相同点发光。由于相互相邻并显示非常相似的灰度级的奇数行和偶数行产生减少了的闪烁量,因此根据本发明一个实施例的等离子体显示装置的驱动方法产生等效于100HZ的驱动效率。
将比较根据本发明实施例的驱动方法和图2的常规驱动方法来描述一帧的两个子场组的时期。对于该实例,假设重置周期持续时间、寻址周期持续时间和维持周期中权重值为1的维持脉冲持续时间分别给定为Rt、At和St。参照图2,由于每个子场具有重置周期、寻址周期和维持周期,两个子场组G1和G2的持续时间计算为14*Rt+14*At+251St。图6的寻址周期分为偶数行寻址周期和奇数行寻址周期,并且每个所需的时间为At/2。因此,根据本发明示例性实施例的驱动方法的持续时间计算为8*Rt+(At/2)*16+340St。与现有技术相比,一帧的持续时间减少了6个重置时间(6Rt)和6个寻址周期(6At),因此通过维持周期从240St增加到360St引起的持续时间的增加不是大的问题。例如,当给定Rt=300μs,At=800μs和St=5μs时,现有技术产生持续时间14*Rt+14*At+251St=16655μs,而根据本发明示例性实施例的驱动方法产生持续时间8*Rt+(At/2)*16+340St=10500μs。因此,根据本发明实施例的驱动方法减少重置周期和寻址周期的数量来减少帧的整体持续时间。结果,可以提高亮度,或者通过减少总的帧持续时间以允许添加维持周期来添加子场。
已经描述了根据本发明实施例的用于将水平行上的放电室分为奇数行和偶数行并驱动它们的方法。实施例还可以应用到其它用于分隔水平行上的放电室的方法中,例如行可以分为上部和下部放电室等。
如上所述,对于预定的灰度级,通过控制面板来在两组子场中的相同点发光来减少闪烁的产生。此外,通过减少两组的子场(形成单独的帧)的持续时间可以提高亮度或增加子场的数量。
本领域内的普通技术人员将理解的是,可在不背离由所附权利要求书限定的本发明宗旨和范围的前提下对本发明进行各种形式和细节上的修改。因此,本发明意欲涵盖在所附权利要求及其等效物范围内的本发明的修改和变型。
Claims (20)
1.一种等离子体显示装置的驱动方法,其中一帧分为多个子场,多个子场被分为第一子场组和第二子场组并驱动所述多个子场,并且包括多个放电单元的扫描行可以分为第一行组和第二行组,第一组包括具有第一权重的第一子场和具有大于第一权重的第二权重并以第一子场组的权重顺序与第一权重相近的第二子场,第二组包括具有第三权重的第三子场和具有大于第三权重的第四权重并以第二子场组的权重顺序与第三权重相近的第四子场,该驱动方法包括:
在第一时间周期,在第一时间重置多个放电单元,第一时间周期包括单一重置周期;
在第一时间周期寻址第一行组中的放电单元;
在第一时间周期产生第一维持放电;
在第一时间周期寻址第二行组中的放电单元;
在第一时间周期产生第二维持放电;
在第二时间周期重置多个放电单元,第二时间周期包括单一重置周期;
在第二时间周期寻址第二行组中的放电单元;
在第二时间周期产生第三维持放电;
在第二时间周期寻址第一行组中的放电单元;以及
在第二时间周期产生第四维持放电。
2.如权利要求1所述的驱动方法,其中在第一组期间,在第二行组中寻址放电单元期间寻址的放电单元中产生第二维持放电。
3.如权利要求2所述的驱动方法,其中在第二组期间,在第一行组中寻址放电单元期间寻址的放电单元中产生第四维持放电。
4.如权利要求1所述的驱动方法,其中第一行组是偶数行组而第二行组是奇数行组。
5.如权利要求1所述的驱动方法,其中第一权重值等于第三权重值,而第二权重值等于第四权重值。
6.如权利要求1所述的驱动方法,其中在第一维持放电中施加的维持脉冲的数量等于在第二维持放电中施加的维持脉冲的数量,而在第三维持放电中施加的维持脉冲的数量等于在第四维持放电中施加的维持脉冲的数量。
7.如权利要求5所述的驱动方法,其中在第一维持放电中施加的维持脉冲的数量等于在第三维持放电中施加的维持脉冲的数量。
8.如权利要求1所述的驱动方法,其中第二权重值是第一权重值的两倍,而第四权重值是第三权重值的两倍。
9.如权利要求1所述的驱动方法,其中包含在第一子场组中的子场的数量等于包含在第二子场组中的子场的数量,而包含在第一子场组中的子场的权重等于包含在第二子场组中的子场的权重。
10.一种等离子体显示装置,包括:
等离子体显示板,包括多个放电单元,其中放电单元行被分为第一行组和第二行组;
控制器,用于将帧分为多个子场,并且将子场分为第一子场组和第二子场组;和
驱动器,用于根据控制器产生的控制信号来驱动等离子体显示板,
其中在第一子场组中具有相近的权重的第一子场和第二子场每一个都包括用于重置放电单元的重置周期、用于在第一行组中选择放电单元的第一地址周期、用于执行维持放电的第一维持周期、用于在第二行组中选择放电单元的第二地址周期和用于执行维持放电的第二维持周期,和
其中在第二子场组中具有相近的权重的第三子场和第四子场每一个都包括用于重置放电单元的重置周期、用于在第二行组中选择放电单元的第三地址周期、用于执行维持放电的第三维持周期、用于在第一行组中选择放电单元的第四地址周期和用于执行维持放电的第四维持周期。
11.如权利要求10所述的等离子体显示装置,其中在第二维持周期维持放电在第一地址周期选择的放电单元和第二地址周期中选择的放电单元,和
其中在第四维持周期维持放电在第三地址周期选择的放电单元和第四地址周期中选择的放电单元。
12.如权利要求10所述的等离子体显示装置,其中在第一维持周期中施加的维持脉冲的数量等于在第二维持周期中施加的维持脉冲的数量,和
其中在第三维持周期中施加的维持脉冲的数量等于在第四维持周期中施加的维持脉冲的数量。
13.如权利要求10所述的等离子体显示装置,其中分配给第一子场的权重值等于分配给第三子场的权重值,而分配给第二子场的权重值等于分配给第四子场的权重值。
14.如权利要求13所述的等离子体显示装置,其中在第一维持周期和第四维持周期中施加的维持脉冲数量彼此相等。
15.如权利要求13所述的等离子体显示装置,其中分配给第二子场的权重值是分配给第一子场的权重值的两倍,并且分配给第四子场的权重值是分配给第三子场的权重值的两倍。
16.如权利要求10所述的等离子体显示装置,其中包含在第一子场组中的子场的数量等于包含在第二子场组中的子场的数量,而包含在第一子场组中的子场的权重等于包含在第二子场组中的子场的权重。
17.如权利要求10所述的等离子体显示装置,其中第一行组是偶数行组,而第二行组是奇数行组。
18.一种等离子体显示装置的驱动方法,用于将一帧分为多个子场,将子场分为具有至少第一组和第二组的组并驱动子场,其中多个放电单元的扫描行可以分为第一行组和第二行组,并且第一子场具有第一权重,而第二子场具有大于第一权重的并以第一子场组中的权重顺序与第一权重相近的第二权重,该驱动方法包括:
重置多个放电单元;
寻址对应于第一行组的放电单元;
产生第一维持放电;
寻址对应于第二行组的放电单元;和
产生第二维持放电。
19.如权利要求18所述的驱动方法,其中第二权重值是第一权重值的两倍,并且第一维持放电产生的维持放电的数量等于第二维持放电产生的维持放电的数量。
20.如权利要求18所述的驱动方法,其中在第一行组的寻址的放电单元和第二行组的寻址的放电单元中产生第二维持放电。
