Washing machine. The present invention relates to a washing machine intended mainly for washing clothes, fabrics and similar objects, which will be designated by the. following generally by linen. This washing machine is of the type comprising a container for the laundry liquid and a disc-shaped stirrer, continuously rotating and mounted in the vicinity of a wall of the container with its front face exposed to the liquid in the container.
It is already known to provide a washing machine with this type of means for admission (the liquid from the container to the space behind the agitator, as well as fins on the back of the agitator to force this liquid to exit through the clearance between the periphery of the agitator and the adjacent wall clu container.
In a particular embodiment, the agitator has holes passing through it in the region of its axis to admit liquid from the container to the space behind said agitator, while in other forms of agitation. execution, the stirrer is mounted in the vicinity of an inner wall or double wall of the container, and. that liquid flows through orifices in this wall which open into the space behind the agitator.
Such an external flow of the liquid makes it possible to prevent the linen from being caught between the agitator and the adjacent wall of the container, without it being. necessary to reduce the clearance to very small dimensions. The present invention differs from the preceding constructions in that the flow is produced by means other than fins provided on the back of the agitator. The washing machine according to the invention is characterized by a pump separate from the agitator and arranged so as to suck liquid from the container and to discharge it through a clearance formed between the periphery of the agitator and the . adjacent wall of the container.
The pump can, for example, deliver the liquid into the space behind the agitator from where it is. forced to flow through the clearance around the agitator.
The stirrer is preferably mounted in the vicinity of a side wall of the container, its axis being horizontal or slightly inclined to the horizontal.
The pump can be arranged in such a way that it can also be used to extract liquid from the container through an outlet for emptying the container.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the washing machine which is the subject of the present invention.
Figs. 1 and 2 are schematic vertical sectional views of these two embodiments, respectively.
In each embodiment shown, the washing machine comprises a receptacle A in the general shape of a straight prism with a rectangular base for washing liquid and a rotary stirrer B mounted in the vicinity of a side wall A1 of the receptacle. The disc-shaped agitator B has on its front face several radial ribs of cross section, slightly curved or wavy. It is mounted on a horizontal shaft B1 carried by bearings B2 and which has at its outer end a pulley B3 to allow the drive of said agitator by firing a motor (not shown) through the intermediary of a belt.
Thanks to the arrangement of the agitator with horizontal axis or slightly inclined, the laundry does not settle on it. The wall A1 of the container is stamped so as to form an annular rib A2 by rotating the agitator and a cylindrical chamber A3 situated behind it, the bearing B2 of the agitator shaft being carried by the former. outer and closed end of the cylindrical chamber A3.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, a pipe C extends from an orifice made in the bottom of the container A towards the end of the cylindrical chamber A3. A filter plug C1 is mounted in said orifice made in the bottom of the container. Helical fins D are mounted on the agitator shaft, spaced therefrom, and constitute an axial pump wheel.
When the agitator B of the worm machine turns, the pump D also turns and tends to suck liquid, through the filter plug Cl at the bottom of the container, by the pipe C and to bring this liquid back into the container. by pushing it back through the annular clearance formed between the agitator and the rib A2, the laundry thus being removed from the agitator.
The embodiment shown in FIG. 2 is similar to that of FIG. 1, except in that the pump instead of being mounted on the agitator shaft is mounted in a separate housing E disposed below the vessel A for the washing liquid. Pump E can be driven by the same motor as that of agitator B or by another motor. The pipe (the delivery of pump E also includes a two-way valve F communicating, on the one hand, with pipe C leading to the cylindrical chamber A3 and, on the other hand, with an external pipe C.
To empty the washing liquid container, simply turn the tap to the emptying position and activate the pump E while the hose G is directed into a sink or a tub, for example, to reuse the washing liquid .
The agitator could be mounted adjacent to the other wall of the container, in particular at the bottom thereof.
