686,420. Washing -machines. HOOVER, Ltd., and FRENCH, V. A. R. June 29, 1951. [July 6, 1950] No. 16934/50. Class 138 (ii). A washing - machine having a continuously rotating disc-like impeller B mounted adjacent a wall A<SP>1</SP> of a container A is provided with a pump, separate from the impeller and arranged to draw liquid from the container and return it through a gap between the periphery of the impeller and the adjacent wall A<SP>1</SP>. In Fig. 2 the pump is in a casing E, while in Fig. 1 (not shown) the pump blades are mounted on the shaft B<SP>1</SP> of the impeller. The wall A<SP>1</SP> of the container is pressed to form an annular rib A<SP>2</SP> surrounding the impeller and a cylindrical chamber A<SP>3</SP> behind it. The chamber A' is connected to the bottom of the container through a pipe C which includes a two-way cock F by means of which the pump E may be used to drain the container through a hose G. According to the Provisional Specification, the impeller may be mounted close to a false wall parallel to a side wall, the pump being situated within a pump chamber connected to the false wall so that it can rock about its axis. Rings of holes in the false wall and in the adjacent wall of the pump chamber can be moved into and out of register. Specification 686,397 is referred to.
