Automatic winding device. The present invention relates to a device for automatically winding a watch movement by the impulses communicated to it.
The best known devices comprise an oscillating mass or flywheel, the displacements of which are limited to a fraction of a turn and a reduction gear train which arms the spring of the barrel. In the. In most of these constructions, the flywheel only works in one direction of rotation.
The inventor proposed to construct an automatic winding device in which the flywheel or winding mass can make complete turns and act on the barrel let in both directions of rotation.
The device according to the invention is characterized by a pawl support surrounding a cam integral with the rewinding mass, the movements of said support being guided by a groove formed in a fixed part integral with the frame of the movement.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the present winding mechanism.
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the movement.
Fig. 2 shows a section along the line II-II of FIG. 1, and fig. 3 is a diagram of the movement of the support of FIG. 1 indicating the ellipsoidal paths of the pawl pivot centers. The winding mass 1 comprises an arm passing above the movement., So that its moment of inertia is as large as possible, a cam 2 which, in the positive device described, is an eccentric integral with the mass 1, and journalled by means of two pierced stones 3 and 4 on axis 5 at the center of the movement.
Said axis is integral with a plate 6, fixed on the bridges, in a recess, by three screws 7, 8 and 9. A rectilinear groove 10, the function of which will be indicated later, is provided from the periphery of the 'plate. The mass 1 is keyed by a spring clip 11 which takes in a groove of the axis 5.
The eccentric 2 controls the movement of the pawl holder 12 by rotating in the hole of a large stone 13 fitted in the holder 12. The peg 14 driven into the holder 12 cooperates with the groove 10, giving the holder a complex movement. . The pawls 15 and 16 actuate the ratchet wheels 19 and 22 in opposite directions under the pressure of the spring 17, the center of which is fixed by a pin 18 and the ends of which rest against the back of the pawls 15 and 16.
When the. winding mass 1 rotates to the left from a reference position, for example that where the geometric center of the eccentric is located on the right which joins the center of the movement to the center of the ankle 14, the movement of the support 12 breaks down as follows: During the first quarter of a turn of the flywheel 1, it is the pawl 15 which works by actuating the ratchet 19. In the next two quarter turns, the pawl 16 meshes with the ratchet 22; finally, in the last quarter, the ratchet 15 again activates the ratchet 19.
Now, the ratchets 19 and 22 are integral with the combined winding wheels 20 and 23, the first of which turns to the left and the second to the right and which both contribute to actuating the crown wheel 26 through the intermediary of the pinion 24. The crown wheel, as usual, is coupled with the barrel ratchet 27. When operating the winding by hand, the pawls simply release the teeth of the ratchets 19 and 22. The movement of the holder 12 and pawls as well as the manner in which their action is distributed over the ratchets 19 and 22 is clear from the diagram of FIG. 3.
The ankle 14 has a rec tilinear reciprocating movement 111N of length equal to the double 2e of the eccentricity e = oE. The geometric center 0 of the eccentric 2 traverses a circumference of radius e. All the other points of the support 12 have ellipsoidal trajectories, in particular the centers of motion of the pawls 15 and 16. The ends of the pawls having to follow the ratchets 19 and 22, under the pressure of the spring 17, have a proper movement with respect to to the support 12.
Fig. 3 analyzes at four successive instants the corresponding positions of the support 12 and of the pawls 15 and 16, at a, b, c and â ,. The useful faces of the ratchet jaws being substantially oriented along the line of the ankle-ratchet centers (19 or 22), their action will be maximum for the parts of the movement along which the pivoting centers of the pawls move tangentially to the corresponding ratchets, namely in the respective positions a and c of the trajectories shown in FIG. 3.
In short, the two pawls drive one or the other of two ratchets, regardless of the direction of rotation of the winding mass. In the present embodiment, the intermediate pinion 24 is mounted on the axis of the ratchet 22; it goes without saying that said pin gnon could also be mounted coaxially with the ratchet 19 and communicate its movement to the barrel ratchet 27 through the intermediary of a return wheel, said return wheel being able, according to a another laughing, meshing with the crown wheel.
If therefore, depending on the embodiment adopted, it proves necessary to reverse the direction of rotation of the intermediate gear, the pawls 15 and 16 will also be reversed so that their jaws are turned outwards, while , in the present embodiment, they are oriented towards each other.
