MECANISME D'ENCLIQUETAGE.

Fig. 1 est une vue schématique en coupe verticale, partie en élé- vation,d'un treuil auquel est appliquée une forme d'exécution très simple d'un mécanisme d'encliquetage suivant l'invention, la coupe étant faite sui- vant la ligne 1-1 de la Fig. 2;
Figs. 2 et 3 sont des vues en coupe 'horizontale suivant la ligne brisée 2-2 de la Fig. 1 montrant la saillie correspondant à la grande vites- se dans la position active sur la Fig. 2 et la saillie correspondant à la petite vitesse dans la position active sur la Fig. 3;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

SNAP MECHANISM.
This invention relates to a ratchet mechanism, the term ratchet here meaning not only a ratchet wheel with which a ratchet or other projecting member cooperates, but also the driving isolation of a freewheel of the roller type.
The main object of the invention is to provide a simple form of a ratchet mechanism which has two transmission ratios and does not involve the use of gears.
Although it is in no way limited in this respect, the invention finds its particular use in the ratcheting of a winch for yacht races, the high speed being used to quickly resume listening and monitoring. low speed to give the final tension to it.
According to the present invention, the ratchet mechanism has a control lever which passes transversely to the axis of the ratchet wheel or of the equivalent part of a ratchet, when the lever is moved from one of them. from the ends of its angular travel to the other, and the pivot axis of which is offset with respect to the axis of this ratchet wheel although it is parallel to it, such that a projection located on the lever on one side of the axle makes it possible to impart to the ratchet wheel an angular movement of lesser amplitude than that of the lever, while a projection located on the other side makes it possible to impress on the ratchet wheel an angular movement of greater amplitude than that of the lever, which gives two transmission ratios between the lever and the ratchet wheel.
The click mechanism is obviously provided with a device
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
to selectively bring the projections into the active positions and the selection is preferably effected by movement of the control lever in a radial direction with respect to its fulcrum or pivot axis.
In the accompanying schematic drawings:
Fig. 1 is a schematic view in vertical section, partly in elevation, of a winch to which is applied a very simple embodiment of a ratchet mechanism according to the invention, the section being taken along the line 1-1 of Fig. 2;
Figs. 2 and 3 are horizontal sectional views taken along broken line 2-2 in FIG. 1 showing the projection corresponding to the high speed in the active position in FIG. 2 and the projection corresponding to the low speed in the active position in FIG. 3;
Fig. 4 is a schematic view in vertical section, partially in elevation of a winch provided with the preferred type of ratchet mechanism according to the invention, and
Figs. 5 to 8 are all views in horizontal section approximately taken along broken line 5-5 of FIG. 4.
In the form of construction of Figs. 1 to 3, the winch 11 is fixed to a shaft end 12 which has come integrally with the ratchet wheel 13 or is fixed in any other way to the latter or to the equivalent part of a catch. The winch is journaled, for example as indicated at 15, in a bearing-flange 17 of the ratchet wheel, this flange cooperating with a fixed base 18 which has on one side a slot 19 for receiving the lever. control 20 and limit the angular movement of the latter.
In Figs. 1 to 3, the control lever 20 is shown as having a sliding fulcrum on a pivot pin 22 carried by the base 18 and engaging in a radial slot 23 of the arm. Two protruding members 26,27 spaced from each other in the direction of the length of the arm and placed on either side of the ratchet wheel (the axis of which is parallel to the pivot axis 22 well that the latter is disposed eccentrically), are intended one or the other to cooperate with the teeth 28 of the ratchet wheel, depending on the axial position of the control lever. Obviously, in practice, these protruding members can take the form of pawls.
29 is a spring-loaded retaining pawl carried by the flange 17.
The parts occupying the positions shown in FIG. 2, the angular movement transmitted to the ratchet wheel when the control lever is moved from one end of its angular travel to the other end (shown in Figs. 2 and 3 as passing through. diametrically across the ratchet wheel, that is to say in an intermediate position of its stroke) will be greater than that of the lever. However? in the position shown in fig. 3 the angular movement to be given to the ratchet wheel will be smaller than that communicated to the lever.
In the form of construction shown in Figs. 4 to 8, the winch 31 is journalled on a shaft end 32 which, in this case, came in one piece with a flange 33 fixed to the fixed base 34 by screws 35.
The lower end of the winch is fixed to a ring 37 with which cooperate a series of rollers 38 of a freewheel coupling provided with a drive part hereinafter called ratchet 39 having the form of a cam disc. central journaled on a boss 40. On the latter is fixed aane other cam ring 42 cooperating with the ring 37 by means of another series of freewheel rollers 43. The ratchet 39 is provided with a hole (not shown) to receive a drive pin 44 attached to a shaped piece. plate 45, capable of rotating, which is shown as being able to move angularly about the axis of the winch, the pin 44 traveling in an arcuate slot '46 formed in the flange 33.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Only the active end of the control lever has been shown
48 in Figs. 4- to 8, but it will be understood that the lever can be extended as far as desired in order to be maneuvered. The active end of the lever is engaged so as to be able to slide in a diametrical slot of a journal 50 which can in turn rotate in a housing 51 of the fixed base provided for this purpose, the axis of the journal being parallel to the axis of the winch, but offset from it. The plate 45 has in its periphery two notches which, when the control lever is hole in the positions of the
Figs. 5 and 7, can selectively receive the projections or the adjacent pins 53, 54 which are fixed to the lever in the axis of the latter.
Thus, if the pin 54 corresponding to the high speed is engaged in the plate 45, as shown in FIG. 7, the plate can be rotated to bring it into the position shown in FIG. 8 by a determined angular movement of the lever, limited by a slot (similar to slot 19 of Figs. 2 and 3) formed in the adjacent wall of the base, while the pin 44 moves in the arcuate slot 46, in thus rotating the winch at high speed via the ratchet 39, that is to say via the freewheel with rollers comprising the rollers 38.
During the return stroke of the control lever, the free wheel comprising the rollers 43 prevents the rotational movement of the winch.
However, when the load becomes excessive, the control lever is slid inwards (Fig. 5) to cause the spindle 53 corresponding to the low speed to engage with the plate 45 and then it is possible to bring the control lever in the position shown in FIG.
6. A comparison between Figs; 6 and 8 with respect to the displacement of the pin 44 in the arcuate slot 46 shows the obtained transmission ratio, that is to say the ratio of the distances of the pins 53, 54 to the pivot axis of the journal 50 when these pins are in the active position.
The heel 56 of the plate 45 is intended to prevent the corresponding pin 54 from going beyond the end of the plate.
It will be understood that the ratchet 39 of the free wheel with rollers can, if it is preferred, be constituted by a ratchet wheel cooperating with a pawl. In a similar manner, the roller retaining freewheel (37, 42 and 43) could be replaced by a pawl cooperating with a ratchet wheel.
In the particular example considered, the ratchet 39 and the rotating part 45 are coaxial, but this is not essential. In the latter case, the control lever is not obliged to pass transversely to the axis of the ratchet when it moves between its end-of-stroke positions, but it could obviously pass transversely to the axis. of the rotating part 45. The advantage of having a rotating part which is not centered on the ratchet is to provide a means of changing the ratio between the lever and the ratchet.
