Process for the preparation of a disazo dye. It has been found that a valuable disazo dye can be produced by using a diazo compound of an amine of the formula
EMI0001.0006
wherein R represents a removable acid residue, couples with 2-phenylamino-5-oxynaphthalene-7-sulfonic acid and splits off the acid residue R by treatment with saponifying agents.
The new dye is a dark powder that dissolves in water with a reddish-blue color and dyes cotton in reddish-blue, light- and water-resistant tones.
The present process as starting material from aminoazo dyes of the above formula can be, for. B. obtained who by diazotizing an 0-ester of 1-amino-8-oxynaphthalene-8,6-disulfonic acid and combining it with l.-amino-2-methoxy-5-tert-butyl-benzene, the Coupling is expediently carried out in a manner known per se in an acidic, preferably weakly acidic medium.
As the 0-ester of 1-amino-8-oxy-nahthaair @ -8,6-disu @ foa @ acid, it is expedient to use those which have the remainder of an aromatic sulfonic acid, e.g. B. contain a p-toluenesulfonic acid residue.
The diazotization of the above Aminoazo @ dyes can be vorgenom men in the usual way. The diazo compounds obtained can advantageously be separated off from the reaction mixture, for example by salting out, before they are used further.
The coupling of the diazo compounds with the 2-phenylamino-5-oxynaphthalene-7-sulfonic acid can, in the usual way, for. B. in alkaline such as sodium carbonate-alkaline medium.
The saponification of the disazo dyes obtained to split off the acid radical R can advantageously be carried out in alkaline alkali Me, eg. B. at a moderately elevated temperature.
The 1-amino-2-methoxy-5-tert-butylbenzene used is z. B. obtained by condensation of isobutyl alcohol with phenol in the presence of zinc chloride. The condensation product is nitrated with dilute nitric acid in glacial acetic acid, then the sodium salt of the o-nitrophenol obtained is reacted with dimethyl sulfate and finally the nitro group is reduced in a known manner with iron and hydrochloric acid.
The new base can be distilled under 18 mm mercury pressure at 146-148 "and then has a melting point of 28-29. Example: 47.3 parts of the p-toluenesulfoester of 1-amino-8-oxynaphthalene-3, are diazotized 6-disulfonic acid in a known manner and combines the suspension with 17.9 parts of 1-amino-2-methoxy-5-tert-butylbenzene. The hydrochloric acid formed is blunted by adding sodium acetate.
After the reaction has ended, the mixture is cooled to 10 and diazotized with 30 parts of 30% hydrochloric acid and 7 parts of sodium nitrite. After stirring for two hours, the diazo body is salted out, filtered off with suction, made into a paste in water and introduced into a solution prepared from 31.5 parts of 2-phenylamino-5-oxynaphthalene-7-sulphonic acid, 30 parts of soda and 300 parts of water. After stirring for one hour, the coupling is finished.
In order to split off the toluenesulfo group, the coupling liquid is heated to 80 and mixed with enough 30% sodium hydroxide solution that its NaOH content is 4 and stirred for 3/4 hours at this temperature. It is cooled to 30, the dye which has precipitated out is suctioned off and dried.
