Process for the preparation of an azo dye. It has been found that a valuable azo dye is obtained if one uses the leucose sulfuric acid ester of the compound of the formula
EMI0001.0005
with diazotized 1 - amino - 4 - chloro - 2.5 - dimethoxybenzene, combined ..
The new dye forms a yellow powder that easily dissolves in water with a yellow color and, printed on cotton and developed with sodium nitrite and dilute sulfuric acid, bright yellow tones with very good wet, chlorine and light fastness.
The leuco-sulfuric acid ester used as the starting material in the present process can be obtained, for example, from the leuco-sulfuric acid ester of 3-chloro-2-aminoanthraquinone by reacting with diketene. The coupling with the diazotized 1-amino-4-chloro-2,5-dimethoxybenzene can be carried out in a conventional manner, for. B. in a weakly alkaline medium containing sodium carbonate at temperatures between 0 and about 25.
Example: 18.75 parts of 1-amino-4-chloro-2,5-dimethoxybenzene are mixed with 25 parts of 30% hydrochloric acid and 25 parts of 4N Sodium nitrite solution in 800 parts of water at 5 to 7 is diazotized. The clear diazo solution is left at 0 to 5 to form a solution of 54,
7 parts of disodium salt of the leuco sulfuric acid ester of 3-chlox-2-aeetoacetylaminoanthraquinone and 30 parts of sodium carbonate flow in 500 parts of water. After some time, the dye separates from the yellow coupling solution as a yellow crystal pulp. The mixture is stirred for 2 hours at 0 to 5 and 6 hours at 10 to 15. The mixture is then heated to 40 to 50, the dye going into solution. 50 parts of sodium chloride are added and the mixture is stirred.
until the dye is completely deposited at room temperature. It is filtered, the dye is washed with 10% sodium chloride solution and dried in a vacuum at 50 to 60.
