<EMI ID=1.1>

High Speed Hydrofoil Improvements
This invention relates to hydrofoils with
high speed whose hull is fitted with crutches carrying
hydrodynamic fins which support the hull fully or partially above the water surface when
<EMI ID = 1.1>
bring certain improvements to the construction of the crutches and make them suitable for use for certain subsidiary purposes.
According to the present invention, one or more of the legs which descend from the underside of the hull are hollow and carry a series of hydrodynamic fins so that these protrude from opposite sides of the hull.
the crutch. Such a hollow crutch provides a saving in weight and furthermore, in addition to its primary purpose of supporting the hydrodynamic fins, the crutch can be used for subsidiary purposes. For example, a transmission shaft can 'be mounted to rotate in the stand and occupy the entire length of the latter, and this shaft serves, to transmit, through a gear arranged at its end, motor movement mounted
inside the hull, to a thruster carried by a short shaft located at the lower end of the crutch. On the other hand, the hollow kickstand can be used to send cooling water, through the kickstand, from an opening drilled at the lower end of the kickstand to the engine contained in the hull. Sending cooling water through the stand using suitable piping can be combined with the mounting of a rotating shaft, contained in the stand, which centers the thruster.
If desired, a hollow kickstand can be mounted in the underside of the hull so that it can be rotated about a vertical axis to steer the hydrofoil. The steering properties of such a kickstand are improved when, as noted above, the thruster is mounted at the lower end of the kickstand.

tree enclosed in the crutch.
The crutch can be hollow in its entire length except for its lower end, which is massive
or closed, or the crutch may be hollow only in part or parts of its length, while in one or more intermediate points it has a massive shape. For example, when a shaft for driving the thruster is arranged inside the kickstand, the kickstand can be

Three constructions, each of which constitutes an embodiment of the invention, are shown somewhat schematically and by way of example only in the accompanying drawing, in which FIG. 1 shows a construction in perspective, <EMI ID = 4.1> Fig. 1, <EMI ID = 5.1> rear view of the front end of the airboat, Fig. 4 shows a modified construction, FIG. 5 is a vertical section, on a larger scale, of the rear stand and the rear part of the hydrofoil shown in FIG. 4.,. and Fig. 6 is a section, similar to FIG. 5, of an amended provision.
In the construction shown in FIG. 1, the hull A containing the engine B is fitted with three crutches

adjust the flow of cooling water to the engine, a device can be provided such as a circulation regulating valve inserted in the pipe F, which makes it possible to increase or decrease the flow of water from the pipe or bore E to the engine water jacket.
In the construction shown in Figs. 4 and 5, a L rear stand, fitted with hydrodynamic fins

It is understood that the hydrofoil according to the invention is provided with at least three crutches, but that the arrangement of these crutches can be modified to satisfy
under special conditions. Thus, for example, two or more crutches can be spaced apart from each other laterally so as to descend from the front part of the hydrofoil, one or more other crutches descending from the rear part of the hydrofoil, or one or more crutches can descend from the front part of the hydroglis-. seur and two or more from the rear. One or more of the legs may be hollow or internally bored to deliver cooling water to the engine and / or to
