Das Arbeitsende des Spaltwerkzeuges 3 besitzt ein Messer 5 und einen die Spaltung begünstigenden Keil 6. Dieses Gegenwerkzeug 12 ist ebenfalls als Messer ausgebildet, wobei das Messer 5 des Spaltwerkzeuges 3 in der voll ausgefahrenen Stellung über das Gegenwerkzeug 12 gleitet, was aber nicht zwingend ist. Nach Fig. 1 ist unter der Aufnahmevertiefung eine Zylinder-Kolbeneinheit 13 im wesentlichen liegend angebracht, mit der ein flexibles Glied 14, also ein Seil, eine Kette, ein Stahlband oder ein Gurt verbunden ist, welches flexible Glied über Spannrollen 15, 16 geführt und mit dem Ende unterhalb des Gegenwerkzeuges 12 bei einer Befestigungsstelle 17 befestigt ist. Das flexible Glied 14 hängt zwischen der Spannrolle 16 und der Befestigungsstelle 17 durch, wobei bei zweiteiliger Ausführung des Auflagers 8 zwischen diesen beiden Teilen ein Spalt freigelassen sein kann, so daß die Möglichkeit besteht, das flexible Glied hier bis unter die Oberseite der Aufnahmevertiefung 11 durchhängen zu lassen. Durch Betätigung der Zylinder-Kolbeneinheit 13 wird das flexible Glied 14 entsprechend dem jeweiligen Bedarf über die Aufnahmevertiefung 11 angehoben, so daß aufgebrachtes Langgut in die gewünschte Arbeitsstellung zwischen Messer 5 und Gegenmesser 12 gebracht werden kann. Gemäß Fig. 2 ist bei sonst gleichbleibender Grundkonstruktion die hier vorgesehene Abstützung 18 als Schwinge ausgeführt, die zwischen zwei Seitenbacken des Auflagers 8 eingreift und unterhalb des Gegenwerkzeuges 12 um eine Achse 19 schwenkbar lagert. Diese Schwinge ist mit einem Querbolzen 20 in bogenförmigen Langlöchern 21 der Seitenbacken des Auflagers 8 zusätzlich geführt und am Querbolzen 20 greift eine mit dem anderen Ende um ein Lager 22 schwenkbar gelagerte Zylinder-Kolbeneinheit 23 an.
