Abstract

 本発明の液晶表示装置は、光透過型の液晶表示パネルからなる画像表示用パネル(2)と、該画像表示用パネル(2)の背面側から光を照射するバックライト(3)とを備える。上記画像表示用パネル(2)と上記バックライト(3)との間に、透過型の液晶表示パネルからなり、該画像表示用パネル(2)に入力される映像信号に含まれる輝度情報に基づいて階調表示を行う調光用パネル(1)が設けられ、上記調光用パネル(1)を構成する画素のサイズが、上記画像表示用パネル(2)を構成する画素のサイズよりも大きい。上記調光用パネル(1)は、フィルム(103)の一方の面に画素電極(1a)が形成され、且つ該フィルム(103)の他方の面に該画素電極(1a)に電気的に接続される信号配線(11)が形成された中間層(102)を有する。
