  • Fig. 1 shows a wagon or trailer 31 connected to the bicycle 1. If an electric motor assisted bicycle is to pull extra load for example a trailer, extra power and or extra motors would be advantageous if not necessary.

  • the tricycle has with hub-mounted electric motors 42, 44, 46 on wheels 41, 43 and 45.
  • the tricycle has the option of being three wheel drive assisted, thus as anyone familiar with this art knows that the rear wheels 45, 46 only can be powered at the same speed when the cycle moves straight forward and not when performing a curve or carving.
  • the most logic system is to have only one of the rear motors active for example motor 46, with front motor 42, motor 44 automatically activated when traction is lost on wheels 45 and or 41.
  • the bicycle shown in fig. I 4 all elements of the invention also apply for the tricycle. Charging the batteries of the cycle without using the mains power is done using dynamos, or solar cells. Solar cell panels are indicated in fig. 1, and 2 denoted 6', and 33'.
  • the system employs at least two motors 60, 61 and offers room for more motors 63. Extra motors are intended to involve tricycles and trailers 65 with or without battery packs 64. For trailers with battery packs the system offers a power plug 64 for common power management.
  • the system inspects all motors connected to the system and registers their corresponding unique addresses in its memory 69 and main microcontroller unit (main MCU) 70. By default, the system will always choose to work with the first two of all the available motors unless specified by the user.

  • switch 72 or option on the user interface console 74 by which a user can manipulate the number of active motors in the system.
  • the active motors are supplied with a small keep-alive current that enables no motion whatsoever, power source denoted 71 (battery).
  • the motors are set on motion only when the user is pedaling activating sensors within the crank 76 or increases the current by varying the accelerator 76' which is coupled with a potentiometer located on one of the handles of the cycle.
  • the crank sensors and accelerator 76, 76' are connected to a micro controller unit (power MCU) 79 that control a smooth current flow to the selected motors.
  • An automatic current control 77 which can override the crank sensors and accelerator 76, 76', are also connected with the power MCU 79 when activated.
  • the main MCU 70 When the main MCU 70 through the speed sensor 80, 81 notes a difference in wheel rotation, through counter 72 and register 73 (and memory 69), it is detected as spinning or carving (especially regarding rear wheels on a tricycle).
  • the main MCU 70 signals power MCU 79 querying for the amount of power sent to the corresponding motor. If the power MCU 79 acknowledges spinning, it in turn sends a signal to the anti-spin controller 84 that triggers a chain of reaction to ensure that a uniform speed gain is reached. As long as the power MCU 79 keeps sending power to motors and the spinning is still detected, the anti-spin controller 84 will keep the electronic current control 77 engaged and keep on reducing the speed of the spinning wheel until traction is reached.
  • a curve sensor 75 is located on forward part of bicycle and tricycle frame where handlebar and fork is joined. This provides the main MCU 70 to read turning of handlebar thus detecting the cycle going in to a curve, the MCU 70 reads this as carving and not spinning. At very low speed of the cycle, the speed being less the same or less than slow walking speed the main MCU 70 has a set option to not activate action for anti brake blocking or anti spin. This function anyone familiar with the art will know is dependent of the programming of the main MCU 70 and options included within and available through the interface console 74.
  • the loss of traction also does arises in the case of braking, only that in this case one or more wheels happen to lock prematurely remaining motionless, hence skidding as other wheels are pulling.
  • the system is equipped with an anti-block brake controller 87 that sees to it that this is avoided.
  • Numerals 88, 89 denote brake discs.
  • the main MCU 70 When the brakes 85, 86 are applied to the system through using brake handles 82, the main MCU 70 besides ordering the power MCU 70 to cut supplies to the motors, it registers the rate at which the speed is reducing. If there is any difference, the wheels with rapid speed loss are reported as being subjected to blocking. The main MCU 70 then sends a signal to the anti-block brake controller 84 in which case it is activated.
  • the anti-block brake controller 87 alternatively applies and releases brakes through brake units 96, 97 to the subjected wheels in order to equalize the rate of speed reduction in respect to the available friction and this will go on as long as the brake are held in and speed sensors 80, 82 are reporting different speeds.
  • the anti-block brake controller 87 works hand in hand with the main MCU 70 that in return dictates a slave Input/Output micro controller MCU 90 to open and close power to a particular relay or relays, 91, 92 responsible.
  • the relay opens and closes sending an ON/OFF signal to the push-pull mechanism of brake units 96, 97 that allows braking and releasing in a very rapid sequence.
  • push- pull mechanisms There are a number of push- pull mechanisms, of which figs.
  • Numeral 93 indicate relay for extra motors and brakes 63
  • numeral 95 indicate plug for connecting trailer 65
  • Numeral 65' indicate connection with main MCU 70 when trailer employs computing means.
  • a trailer with power source, motor computing means and control means allows a trailer to be hooked on to a cycle, assisting by motor means the cycle motion.
  • the trailer would in such a case have remote control device attachable on cycle handlebar for management of wagon power and motor.
  • the anti lock brake system described can also be activated if traction is lost due to wheel spinning. If traction is to be gained without stopping the cycle the motors on the wheels cannot stop entirely. In this situation the anti block system is to work as requested by the anti-spin controller 84.
  • the main MCU 70 activates a feedback controller 94 and orders a power controller 98 to tap energy from the motors.
  • the powerless motors then take advantage of the wheels in motion to serve as dynamos, hence converting motion into electricity.
  • the feedback controller then accumulates the energy generated, regulates it before forwarding it to the power controller 98, which then charges the power source, battery 71.
  • Regular dynamos may also be incorporated within the system, denoted 60', and 61'.
  • the power source such as battery 71 may also be charged by use of solar cell panels 71'.
  • Fig. 4a-4c show a brake unit, denoted 16, 17 on fig. 1, with housing 101, which is located between the brake engager or handle cable 102 of the cycle and brake caliper cable 103 in case of disc brakes. Any type of brake system might however be used.
  • Slideable on rails 104, 105 within the housing is an electric motor 108, which has a screw rotor 109. Between one end of housing and motor is located a high-tension spring 107.
  • a pulley 110, fixed on rails 111, 112 is in engagement with screw rotor 109.
  • the motor is connected to brake handle cable 102, the pulley connected to caliper cable 103.
  • the pulley 110 is at an end position with a distance from motor 108.
  • the brake handle pulling the brake cable (102, 103) performs calipers to engage brake pads on brake discs of the bicycle, both motor 108 and pulley 110 sliding on rails 104, 105 thus static relative each other. If skidding of wheels during braking occurs as described above relative to numerals 90, 91, 92, the motor 108 is activated pushing and pulling pulley 110 as indicated on fig 4c.
  • Numerals 114, 115 denote connectors on rails 104, detecting position of pulley 110 in order for MCU 70 to signal motor 108 switching the direction of turn of screw rotor 109, hence moving the pulley 110 making calipers slip and brake rapidly avoiding blocking of wheels providing traction on slippery surface and terrain during braking.
  • the configuration of the cycles described above also provides a system, which may be used for mobile or indoor training cycle.
  • the automatic accelerator controller 77 may be through the input console 74, set at choice resistance and thereby giving the user a resistance when biking.
  • the shown cycle configuration according to the invention is therefore suitable for adapting to static training bikes as ergometer trainers or spinners for indoor use.
  • a cycle of the disclosed configuration may therefore be set on a floor supported frame and thus serve as an indoor training apparatus as indicated by dotted lines 99, 100 on fig. 1.
  • Fig. 5a-5b show a tricycle 200 with hub mounted electric motors 201, 202, 203, powering wheels 204, 205, 206. Battery-pack not shown on figure, but could be placed anywhere, for example in frame as suggested in fig. 1.
  • the tricycle has an inventive rear wheel- axle and suspension unit 210, as shown in more detail on figs. 7 and 8.
  • the solution provides for tilting the tricycle similar to riding a bicycle.
  • Fig. 6a shows a front view of tricycle 200 in a neutral position
  • fig. 6b shows a front view of tricycle 200 in a tilt position.
  • the rear wheel, axle and suspension unit 210 comprise of a pair of horizontal oriented bars 230, 231, rotary connected through center and at two levels on vertically tube of rear part of frame 221. Located between bars 230, 231, rear drive cogs or gear unit 234 is connected to frame 221. A split axle, 235, 236 is connected to drive unit 234 and to vertically oriented bars 237, 238, which at each ends are rotary, connected with bars 230, 231. Wheels 205, 206 are connected to split axle 235 and 236. Springs and dampers 240, 241 are located from each end of top bar 230 to frame 221. The cogs on axle and on crank are shown without any gearing means, but any existing gearing system can be used.
  • Fig 7a show a side view of frame 220 where section VTI-VII shown in fig 7b is made, and which show the rear split axle configuration.
  • the tricycle described with reference to figs 5-9 will have drive, braking and traction system as disclosed above with reference to figs 1-4.
  • the brake system is illustrated on fig. 5b, front brake handle 211, rear brake handle 212, front cable 213 and cable 214 to rear brakes.
  • Brake units 215, 216, 216' as described above with reference to figs.4a-4b are located on the brake cables between brake handles 211, 212 and brake calipers 217, 218, 219.
  • Brake discs are denoted 217', 218', and 219'.
  • Tricycles provide more stability and can transport more goods and people than a standard bicycle. Rickshaws are widely used around the world for these purposes. Fig.
  • FIG. 9 and 10a- 10b shows a tricycle 200 with a carrier box 250, which consists of two parts, a curved base 251 and curved lid 252.
  • Base 251 has brackets 253, 254 which is fixed to frame 221 of the tricycle, also shown in fig 5b.
  • the tricycle may also be fitted with a seat, for transportation of people.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un cycle, bicyclette ou tricycle, assisté par moteur électrique qui comporte des moyens pour propulser et commander la rotation de toutes les roues afin d'offrir à l'utilisateur une sécurité de circulation et d'arrêt dans n'importe quelles conditions. Ladite invention propose un cycle qui grimpe et progresse sans se soucier des sols glissants, boueux, humides, enneigés ou verglacés ; ledit cycle a des moteurs électriques sur toutes les roues et un système pour commander la traction.
