No. 24,155. Patented Mar 26, 1895.
OOODDDDDODO m l [Means UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN F. A. IIOOHT, OF NPHV YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FORA MANTEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 24,155, dated March 26, 1895. Application filed January 10, 1895. Serial No. 534,497- Term oipatent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN F. A. HOORT, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Mantels; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
The figure of the drawing is an isometric view of the mantel.
The loading feature of my design for a mantel consists in the design for the frame and its adjuncts which surmount the mantel shelf.
Numeral 1 indicates the mantel shelf cousisting of an entablature with a beaded band 2 and supported by brackets 3 having ornamented foliations. These parts surmount a plain surface 4 provided with the oval foliated ornament 5 comprising rosettes 6 and vines 7 having a crenelated arrangement.
8 denotes rectangular columns having at their feet fruit like ornaments and provided with niches 9 containing miniature columns 10 arranged in pairs. The columns 10 surmount miniature entablatures 11 and are separated from the plain surface 4 by a beaded line 12.
Above the main entablature l and at its rear is a frame or panel 13. At each end of said frame is a pair of columns the shaft of each of which is of an inverted frusto-pyramidal form having a base and capital of a harmonious character, the latter being provided with a foliated ornament 14. Above each pair of these capitals is a small entabla- Lore 15 which in turn is surmounted by an entablature 16 the latter having a wide frieze provided with fiuting at its lower part. The skirt or background 17 is a continuation of the frame 13 and has an ornamental band 18 continuous with the entablatures 16 and similar in appearance. Above this band are ornamental scrolls 19.
The frame 13 is ornamented with rosettes 20, pendants 21, scroll like foliations 22 and an intermediate ornament 23.
What I claim is The design for a mantel as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN F. A. HOOR'I.
