DESIGN FOR A MANTEL.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Design No. 24,1 53, dated March 26, 1 895.
Application filed January 10, 1895. Serial No. 534,495. Term of patent 3%; years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I. JOHN F. A. IIOORT, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Mantels; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
The figure of the drawing is an isometric view of the mantel.
The leading feature of the design is the design for mantel supports.
Numeral 1 indicates the mantel shelf consisting of an entablature comprising among otherfeaturesafriezeornamented with basket work. Two pairs of coin in us are denoted by 2. These have capitals 3 provided with foliated ornaments and surmounted by a capital common to two of said columns and to a rectangular column 5. A pedestal for these is denoted by 6. The capitals 4 are ornamented with rosettes 7. In a deep recess between the capitals i and immediately beneath the basket work frieze are two panels 8. Between these and in advance of them is a larger panel 9 0rnamented with a rayed figure 10 situated between two pendants 11 and surmonntiug a figurel2havingnumerousterminalscrolls. The panel 9 is bounded below by a beaded band extending between the capitals of the inner columns 2.
The mantel shelf is surmounted by a second entablature 13 having a lattice work frieze ll.
15 indicates two pairs of columns each pair having a capital 16 provided with a ring like ornament 17. Between these capitals is a sunken panel ornamented with a festoon and vines. This panel is bounded below bya basket work hand 17 which is continuous with a band around the capitals, said capital bands being ornamented with festoons. Below the bands and between the columns is a panel form 18.
The whole mantel has a skirt or background 19.
What I claim is The design for a mantel herein shown and described.
