Be it known that I, EDMUND PYNE, of New York city, county and State of New Yale, have invented a new and original Design for a Carpet, of which the following is a specification:
The accompanying photograph illustrates my new design.
This invention relates to anew design for a carpet, oil-cloth, or similar fabric; and consists in the new arrangement and ornamentation of figures hereinafter described.
The distinguishing feature of the design consists in having the background of the carpet made in two colors, the main background A having at regular intervals fields a a of other color said fields being shaped similar to heraldic shields, but without a clearly-defined outline. These spaces a a are traversed and embraced by flowers branches, leaves, and scrolls, as shown.
Between every pair of consecutive spaces (i extends a large S-shapcd scroll, b, one end of which, 0, terminates in a cluster, d, of flowers and fern-leaves, while the other end 0 is t1'av (used by a plume, extending across the carpet. The plumef passes through a group of flowers, g, as shown, and the S-shaped scroll b is embellished hysnialler scrolls at. its sides.
The carpet is furthermore richly decorated by flowers and leaves, which are arranged in connection with the main groups heretofore described.
I claim as my invcntion- 1. The design for a carpet containing the spaces a ct (litl'erent ground color than the remainder of the carpet, and having the clusters (l of flowers and leaves and groups 9, substantially as shown.
2. The design for a carpet, substantially as shown.
