To all about it may concern:

Be it known that I, FREDERICK S. Bos- WORTH, of the city and county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Design for Fancy Cassinieres; and I do hereby declare that the following specification, taken in connection with the drawing and making a part of the same, is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

The novel design, hereinafter described, consists in the combination and alternation of broad plainly-woven but differently-shaded stripes, the eflect produced by said combination being apparent from an inspection of the accompanying drawing, to which reference is made.

The fabric is traversed longitudinally by the broad stripe A, whose surface is shaded by narrow longitudinal stripes, difl'ering in color from the ground of the fabric, the said shading-stripes being arranged as follows: A group of very narrow shadingstripes, a, is placed upon the central portion of the broad stripe A, the said narrow stripes being flanked on either side by shading-stripes a, which are wider than those of the first group. The said stripes a are in turn flanked by other shading stripes, a, which are of still greater width, the outer stripes of the last groups appearing on and forming the sides of the broad stripe, A. These shading stripes are all placed equal distances from each other, the separat ing space showing the color of the ground of the fabric.

In alternation with the stripe A is a narrower stripe, B, whose plainly-woven surface is shaded at the sides in stripes b l), and at the center in a narrow stripe, b, by broken longitudinal lines of a color differing from that of the ground of the fabric, and also from that of the stripes shading A.

The fabric may be woven in any preferred variety or combination of colors for giving a desirable effect to the design above described, the characteristic feature of which is broad plainly-woven stripes A, whose surfaces are shaded by groups of longitudinal stripes arranged in decreasing width, in combination with the plainly-woven stripes B, whose surfaces are shaded in stripes at the sides and at the center by broken longitudinal lines of a color differing from that of the ground of the fabric and from that of the stripes which shade the broad stripe A.
