Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Hosna E. VEST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wills Point, in the county of Van Zandt and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Roofing Construction, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in roofing construction. Its object is to provide awater proof roofing construction which may be quickly and economically applied and will resist the weather for a long period of time.

A further object is to construct a roof in such a manner that it will offer very strong resistance to displacement by wind pressure, being peculiarly adapted for use in cyclonic districts.

Finally the objectof the invention is to provide a roofing construction of the character described that will be strong, durable and efiicient and comparatively easy to apply and one which will be substantially impervious to the weather.

Vith these and various other objects in View my invention has relation to certain novel features of construction, an example of which is described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Figure l is an isometric view of the frame work of the house, showing, how in this construction, wires are passed longitudinally over the roof of the house and down the front thereof, and securely anchored in the ground. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of a portion of the roof of a house showing the various constituents of which the roof is con structed.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in all the figures, the numeral 1 denotes the wires which serve the double purpose of restricting the roof from displacement in case of storms and of forming a firm base for the roofing material, making it possible for the roof to support considerable weight.

The numeral 2 denotes a beam or log, one of which is to be buried at the front and rear of the house, serving as anchors for the wire 1. After the wire 1 has been secured in place, the roof of the frame work is covered with wire netting 3, which is secured to said frame work in any suitable manner. Upon this netting is laid a layer of canvas 4 and a coat of roofing material 5 is applied to the canvas. The material should be water proof, and adapted to resist the sun and weather.

It will be seen that the above construction produces a strong and durable roofing which may be rapidly laid and which is adapted to resist a very high wind pressure.

I am aware that changes may be made in the details of this construction without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing the advantages thereof and I therefor reserve the right to make such changes and alterations in the construction as come within the scope of the following claims.

\Vhat I claim is:

1. In a roofing construction, the combination with the frame work of ahouse, of a plurality of wires extending across the roof thereof and down the ends of the frame work, means at each end of the house to which the extremities of said wires are secured, and roofing material superimposed upon said wires.

2. In a roofing construction the combination with the frame work of a house, of a plurality of wires extending over the roof of said frame work and down the ends thereof, means buried in the ground at each end of the house to which the extremities of said wires are secured, and roofing material superimposed on said wires upon the top of said frame work.

3. In a roofing construction the combination with the frame work of a house, of a plurality of wires extending across said frame work and down the ends thereof, means buried in the ground at each end of the house to which the extremities of said wires are secured, wire netting superimposed upon said netting on the roof of the frame work, canvas superimposed upon the wire netting and roofing material superimposed upon the canvas.
