Be it known that I, CHARLES M. Havwns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain improvements in Bowl-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

The objects of this invention are to provide a device for holding a bowl in tilted position upon a table top, as the same is commonly held by hand for beating an egg or the like; to thus enable the hand which would otherwise hold the bowl to be free for other purposes, such as pouring in an ingredient; to secure a simple, durable and eflicient construction, which can be manufactured and sold at little expense, and which will not be ditlicnlt to manipulate or clean; to provide a compact construction, so that the device can be easily stored and shipped, and to obtain other advantages and results as may be brought out in the following description.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals of reference indi cate corresponding parts in each of the several figures, Figure 1. is a front edge View of my improved bowl holder; Fig. 2 is a View of the same from its inner side or side next the bowl, and Fig. 3 is a plan ot the bowl holder holding a bowl.

in said drawings, indicates the body portion of my improved device, said body comprising a strip of sheet-metal having one end of itself bent into a clamp 11 adapted to engage the edge of a table or the like, and having the rest of itsell. forming a straight standard adapted to project upward from such a table. it will be understood that. the device is to be secured or clamped to the edge of a table and hold a bowl thereon in tipped or tilted position so that the cook can beat the contents of said bowl with a spoon in one hand while with the other hand she pours an ingredient into the bowl. To form said clamp portion 11, the body 10 is bent sidewise at right angles, as at 12, and then at a distance therefrom, as at 13, bent again in the opposite direction, a final bend l t in the same direction as the second bend 13 producing a rectangular clamp portion 11 which is adapted to receive the edge ot a table at its open side. A set screw 15 works up through the lower arm 16 against the table top, and the standard 17 projects upward from the upper arm 18 of the clamp portion 11, at its inner end, so that said standard 17 is located inward from the edge of the table and is almost directly above the clamping screw 15.

The standard 17 is slotted, as at 19, to receive a clamping bolt 20 having a head 21 at the inner side of the standard or side next the bowl, and at the opposite side of said standard receiving a wing-nut 22. Between the said head 21 of the clamping bolt 20 and the inner side of the standard 17 is arranged a gripping member 2-3, which comprises a doubled piece of resilient sheet metal, of inverted U-shape in edge View. One arm or this gripping member lies against the standard 17, having at or near its lower end lateral cars 24, 2t bent up at right angles and having their ends rounded as at 25. The other arm of the gripping member is considerably narrower than the space between said cars 24:, 2 1, and forms a tongue adapted to enter between said ears. Through both said arms 26, 27, respectively, extends the bolt 20, at a point adjacent to the connection of said arms, said bolt being loose at least in the arm 26 next to the standard 17.

The edge of the bowl desired to be held is inserted between the two arms 26, 27 ot the gripping member 253, said gripping memher being swung pivotally to allow the bowl to tilt or tip at the required angle, and also adjusted to the proper height to allow the said bowl to rest upon the table. The wing nut 22 is then tightened, and obviously the cars 21, 2-1: will engage the outside 01 the bowl, while the tongue formed by the arm 27 engages the inside of the bowl. The bowl is thus pinched between the said arms, and at the same time the entire gripping member is clamped against the standard 17 to prevent. any displacement with respect thereto. The bowl is then held firmly in desired tilting position.

It should be noted that my improved bowl holder comprises only two sheet metal parts or pieces, aside from the two clamping belts or screws, and furthermore that all the adjustments between said two pieces or parts are made by the tightening and loosening of a single clamping bolt. Great simplicity, both in construction and in use or manipulation, is thus secured.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:

1. In a device of the character described, a body portion having means for attachment to a table or the like and an upright slotted standard, a. doubled gripping member adapted to receive the edge of a bowl between the ends of its arms, a bolt passing through said arms of the gripping member near its doubled end and through the slot in said standard, and a nut on said bolt.

2. In a device of the character described, a body portion providing a clamping foot and an upright slotted standard, a doubled gripping member having one of its arms provided with projecting ears and the other arm adapted to enter between said ears, and a single bolt for clamping said arms upon a bowl and said gripping member to said standard.

3. In a device of the character described, the combination with a standard, of a U- shaped gripping member having arms adapted to receive between themselves the edge of a bowl, one of said arms provided with lateral ears projecting toward the other arm and said other arm adapted to enter between said ears, and means for clamping said arms together.

4-. In a device of the character described, the combination of a body portion having means for attachment to a table and a slotted standard adapted to project upward from said table, a U-shaped gripping member adapted to receive between its arms the edge of a bowl and lying fiat against said standard, and a single bolt passing through said arms of the gripping member adjacent to their connection and through the slot of the standard, said bolt having a head at one end, and an adjustable nut upon the other end of said bolt.
