Be it known that 1, ELIJnrIv MORRISON, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Haverhill, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tipping- Handle and Cover Holders for Kettles, of which. the following is a specification.

r rThe object of this invention is to provide a device which may be applied to different sized and shaped kettles to assist in tipping or decanting said kettles and to hold the cover on said kettles.

The invention consists in a device for holding a cover to a kettle, consisting of a springclamp formed to embrace one of the bail-ears on said kettle, a spring-ear formed thereon to engage the upper surface of a cover placed on said kettle, and spring-clamp hooks depending therefrom, the free ends of said springclamp hooks formed to bear against the side of said kettle.

The invention further consists in an adjustable handle-holder formed of wire adapted to encircle the body of a kettle, to which a handle for tipping said kettle is attached.

The invention still further consists in a connecting-link, also preferably formed of wire and adapted to join said spring-clamp to said spring-Wire.

The invention still further consists in certain construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as fully set forth in the following specilication and particularly pointed out in the claims thereof.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved tipping-handle and cover holder, showing the same attached to a kettle of ordinary construction. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same with the cover removed. Fig. 3 is an i enlarged perspective view of the spring clamp coverholder. Fig. -Lt is a perspective view of the spring-clamp cover-holder, a portion of the handle-holder, and the connection between said parts, showing the same attached to a portion of the kettle. Fig. 5 is a section line 5 5, Fig. 1.

spring-clamp hooks 19 19, the free'ends 111 of said spring-clamp hooks engaging the rim or side of the kettle and assisting to hold the spring-clamp 9 upon the kettle.

16 is a connection formed of a single wire bent midway between its ends to form an eye 17, the free ends of said wire connection 16 being bent into the form of hooks 18 18. The connection 16 between the hooks 18 and the eye 17 is formed by twisting the two ends lof the wire around each other. Said hooks 18 1S engage the spring-hooks 19 19, formed by the portions 13 141E of the spring-clamp 9. The eye 17 engages a wire handle-holder 20, thus joining the spring-clamp 9 and wire handleholder 20 together. The wire handle-holder 2O encircles the kettle and terminates intwo hooks 21 21, said hooks passing through a vmetal plate 22, to which the tippinghandle 23 is secured. The metal plate 22 is struck up to form recesses at 26 26 to receive the ends of the hooks 21 21, which pass from the outside of the plate 22 toward the kettle and are covered by the plate 21, lying in the recesses 26 and obviating any danger of catching in the dish rag or towel when the kettle is being Washed or wiped.

The handle-holder 2O has a spiral spring 24 integral therewith which allows said handleholder to accommodate itself to varying diameters of kettles.

It will be noted that there are preferably two spring-clamp cover-holders 9 9 and two connections 16 16 for each kettle to which my device is applied. 1t will also be noted that the spring-ears 10 10 being located diametrically opposite each other allow the cover 8 to be slipped in from either side of the bail. 1t will also be noted that in tipping the kettle by means of the tipping-handle 23 the liquid will pass out of the kettle at a portion of the rim which is free and unobstructed at right angles to a line joining the ears 6 6 of the kettle, whereas without the use of my device in tipping the kettle by the bail alone the liquid necessarily passes around one of the ears 6 6, obstructing the flow of the liquid and often causing inconvenience by spilling upon the floor or table. It will be particularly noted that the ears l0 l0 will accommodate different-shaped covers, as they are resilient and can spring upward to accommodate different thicknesses of covers. It will also be noted that said ears may be expanded more or less laterally to accommodate the spring-clamp 9 to varying widths' of ears 6.

Having thus described my invention, what l claim, and desire by Letters Patent to secure, is;-

1. A device for holding a handle upon the side of'a kettle, consisting of a spring-wire adapted to encircle the body of said kettle, a handle fast to said springwire, a spring-clamp formed to embrace one of the bail-ears on said kettle and a wire connecting said spring-Wire and spring-clamp.

2. A device for holding a cover to a kettle and for holding a handle upon the side of said kettle, consisting of a spring-clamp formed to embrace one of the bail-ears on said kettle and having a spring-ear formed thereon to engage the upper surface of a cover placed on said kettle; a spring-wire adapted to encircle the body of said kettle, a handle fast to said spring-wire, and a wire connecting said spring-wire and said spring-clamp.

3. A device for holding a cover to a kettle, consisting of a spring-clamp formed to ernbrace one of the bail-ears on said kettle, a spring-ear formed thereon to engage the upper surface of a cover placed on said kettle,

and spring-clamp hooks depending therefrom, the free ends of said spring-clamp hooks formed to bear against the side of said kettle.

4. A device for holding a handle upon the side of a kettle, consisting of a spring-'wire adapted to encircle the body of said kettle, hooks formed upon the free ends of said spring-wire, a plate attached to said spring- 5o wire by said hooks and a handle fast to said plate.

5. A device for holding a cover to a kettle, and for holding a handle upon the side of said kettle, consisting of a spring-clamp formed to 5 5 embrace one of the bail-ears on said kettle, a spring-ear formed thereon to engage the upper surface of a cover placed on said kettle; spring-clamp hooks 'depending therefrom; a spring-wire adapted to encircle the body of 6o said kettle, a handle fast to said spring-wire and a wire connecting said spring-clamp and spring-wire.

6. A device for holding a cover to a kettle and for holding a handle upon the side of said kettle, consisting of a spring-clamp formed to embrace one of the bail-ears on said kettle, a spring-ear formed thereon to engage the upper surface of a cover placed on said kettle and spring clamp hooks depending there- 7o from; a spring-wire adapted to encircle the body of said kettle,a handle fast to said springwire, a connecting-wire formed of a single Wire having an eye at one e'nd engaging said spring-Wire, hooks at the opposite end engaging said spring-clamp hooks and a twisted central portion.
