Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Snmnr F. F aroma, a citizen of the United States, residing at Centralia, in the county of Boone and fitate of Missouri, have invented a new and useful \Vall-Paper-Hanging Implement. of which the following is a specification.

The primary object of the present invention is to provide a novel and simple structure whereby paper can be accurately and smoothly applied to a wall or ceiling with ease and expedition, the structure thereof being such that the amount of paste applied to the paper can be readily varied in order to secure the best results.

The preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the same. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view therethrough. Figs. 3 and 1 are longitudinal sectional views on the lines 3-3 and 4 t of Fig. 2.

In the embodiment illustrated, a reservoir for paste is employed comprising a sheet metal casing 5 having end walls 6 secured therein, the rear wall 7 of the body terminating short of the bottom to provide a longitudinal opening 8. A handle 9 is secured to the outer wall of the casing. The end walls 6 are provided with transverse slots 10 opening through the rear edges of said walls, and a paste carrying roller 11, located in the rear opening 8, has gudgeons 12 that are journaled in the slots, and are removable through the open ends thereof. Bracket plates 13 are secured to the ends of the reservoir 5, and a paper-holding shaft 14, disposed longitudinally of the reservoir, has its end portions detachably engaged in the upper ends of the brackets. This shaft is in the form of a rod or wire, one terminal 15 of which is bent at right angles and engages in a. socket 16 formed in the flange 17 of one of the brackets 13. The paper to be applied is in the form of a roll, as shown at 18, and is placed upon the shaft 14. Hanger arms 19 are pivoted, as shown at 20 to the brackets 13, and a paper applying roller 21 has gudgeons 22 journaled in the lower ends of the arms 19, these gudgeons preferably having rounded heads 23 at their outer ends.

Holding links 25 are arranged at the ends of the casing 5, and have longitudinal slots 26 through which are passed clamping devices 27 that will effectively maintain the links in fixed positions. The other ends of said links have openings 28 through which the heads 23 of the gudgeons 22 are passed.

Inusing the device, the paper from the roll 18 is passed between the two rollers 11 and 21, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and it will be evident that if the reservoir contains paste, the rear face of the paper will be coated with the same by the roller 11 on the downward movement of the implement. The roller 21 applies the paper to the wall, as shown, and smooths the same against said wall. This roller 21 is prevented from pressing against the roller 11 by the links 25,which can be adjusted be cause of their slots 26 and clamping devices 27 so that the proper amount of paste can always be applied and there can be no pressure between the rollers 11 and 21 that will prevent such application. In applying a roll of paper, the shaft it is removed from the brackets and inserted through the roll, being afterward locked in place by engaging the offset end 15 in the notch 16. The links 25, which are preferably of spring steel, can. be disengaged from the gudgeons 22 and the roller 21 thrown back out of the way so that the roller 11 can be easily removed for the purpose of replenishing the supply of paste. It will furthermore be evident that because of the particular ar rangement of this roller 11, if any surplus paste is carried around by it, it will be returned to the reservoir.

From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operation and many advantages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, without further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion and minor details of construction, may be resorted to without deiartin from the s airit or sacrificin an of 1 b b the advantages of the invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a paper hanging implement, the

combination with a paste reservoir having paste delivering means, of a hanger pivoted to the reservoir, a paper applying rollen journaled in the hanger, and means for normally holding the hanger against its pivotal movement on the reservoir.

In a paper hanging implement, the combination with a paste reservoir having paste delivering means, of a hanger pivoted to the reservoir, a paper applying roller jonrnaled in the hanger and cooperating with the delivering means, and means for normally holding the hanger against its pivotal movement on the reservoir and in different relations with respect to the reservoir to hold the roller in different relations to the paste delivering means.

3. in a paper hanging implement, the combination with a paste reservoir having paste delivering means, of movable hanger arms connected to the ends of the reservoir,

a paper applying roller jonrnaled in the arms and cooperating with the delivering means, and links connecting the arms and reservoir to normally prevent the pivotal movement of the latter.

4. In a paper hanging implement, the combination With a paste reservoir having an open side, of a paste applying roller jonrnaled in said open side, hanger arms pivoted to the ends of the reservoir, a paper applying roller having gudgeons jonrnaled in the arms, links detachably engaging the ends of the gndgeons and having 10ngitudinal slots, and clamping devices passing through the slots and engaging the ends of the reservoir.
