UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FELIX KOHN, OF VIENNA, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
ROCKING-CHAIR- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 21, 1905.
Application filed December 28, 1904. Serial No. 238,638-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FELIX KoHN, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and a resident of Vienna, Austria-Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Im provements in Rocking-Chairs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to chairs, commonly known as rocking-chairs, and has for its object to provide a chair of this description which can be easily manufactured and which will at the same time be strong and durable, as well as comfortable.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view of a rocking-chair made according to my invention, and Fig. 2 is a front view of the same.
A represents the rockers of the chair, which in the present case are made from one piece of material bent into an ellipse with the ends overlapping, as at A, said ends being fastened together in any suitable manneras, for instance, by screws A The back-frame B, to which the back G is fastened in any convenient manner, may also be made in one piece of material, which is bentinto a U shape. The said back-frame B is secured to the rockers A at two placesfor instance, by screws, as shown at B and B The elliptical form of the rockers A makes it possible when assembling the parts to adjust this back-frame B in a variety of positions, so that the inclination of the back-frame B and back 0 may be more or less, as desired. The seat portion D fits between the rockers and into the back-frame and is secured at D by means of screws or other fastening devices to the rockers A and to the back-frame B in any convenient manner at D By making the rockers A in the form of an ellipse a gentle and easy rocking motion'of the chair is secured, and said rockers A also at the same time form side portions or arm -rests for said chair. The seat portion and back portion of said chair are also capable of a large variety of adjustments to suit existing conditions or individual tastes. This range of adjustment is limited in existing chairs owing to their construction, which necessitates the arrangement of said parts in certain positions. My invention also does away with a great numleer of parts, and thus makes the chair simple in construction and easy of manufacture.
Various modifications may be made with- "out departing from the nature of my invenscribing witnesses.
