SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 725,671, dated April 21, 1903.

Application filed August 12, 1901; Serial No. 71,867. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, GEORGE PIERCE BUT- LER, a citizen of the United States, and aresident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Oval Cigarettes, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to oval cigarettes. It has for its object to produce a new and'improved oval cigarette having a neat and pleas ing appearance and, as viewed from one side, a seamless appearance.

It consists of the novel article of manufacture herein shown and described.

Referring to the drawings, which are upon a greatly-enlarged scale, Figure 1 is a vertical cross-section through a cigarette embody ing my invention with the cigarette turned upside down, and Fig. 2 is a plan view looking down on the top of Fig. 1.

In my improved cigarette, 1 is the wrapper, and 2 the filler. The edges 3 3 of the wrapper are secured together around the filler along the edge of the oval. For example, the two edges 3 3 of the wrapper are secured together near the left-hand edge 4 of the cigarette instead of being secured in the old way along the middle of the wider side 5 5, as has heretofore been the practice. The edges are secured together in any suitable manner. As

My improved cigarette presents a neat and pleasing appearance.

The edges of the wrapper may be forced together byhand or any suitable means, and the seam of the edges may of course be made at either edge of the cigarette.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. As an article of manufacture an oval cigarette having the edges of its wrapper secured together around the filler just below an edge of the oval.

2. As an article of manufacture an oval cigarette having the edges of its wrapper pasted together around the filler just below an edge of the oval.
