WINDOW-SHADE FIXTURE.

Be it known that I, JOHN WVHEAT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Decatur, in the county of Macon and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in XVindow-Shade Fixtures; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in window-shade fixtures, and has for one object to provide a simple, inexpensive, and practical fixture adapted to be readily and adjustably secured to the window jambs or frames and provided with means for supporting the ordinary window-shade roller.

A further object of the invention is to produce a fixture which can be quickly and easily applied and adjusted vertically of the jambs and also make provision for the horizontal adjustment and reversement of the shaderoller brackets for the purpose of accommodating rollers of different lengths.

A further object is to provide a fixture whereby the shade-roller bracket can be ad- 3' usted vertically and horizon tally and reversibly, the fixture being also provided with suitable brackets for a curtain-pole.

A further object of the invention is to produce a generally improved, simplified, and practical construction for a window-shade fixture or curtain-fixture.

In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated a practical embodiment of the invention, but desire it understood that I do not wish to be limited in the useful applications of the same to the particular construction which for the sake of illustration I have therein shown.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a fixture embodying my invention and showing the same applied to a window-jamb. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan View of the fixture shown in Fig. 1, showing the jamb in sections. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the'fixture. Figs. 4 and 5are details showing the shade-roller brackets.

Referring to the drawings, A indicates a window-jamb or side pieces of a windowframe. v

O and D indicate two members of a clamp,

each member having a depending flange or too (indicated, respectively, at O and D) adapted to engage the opposite side faces of the jamb A. The members 0 and D are provided with laterally-extending lugs E and F, one of which, as F, has a screw-threaded hole or openingf, and the other of which has a smooth opening 6. Passing through the opening e and sliding therein is the shank of a set-screw G, the threads of which engage with the screw-threads in the opening On the shank of the screw G is a collar 9, bearing against the lug E. The screw G is provided with a suitable operating-handle or thumb-piece G. By this construction it will be understood that by simply turning the screw G the clamp members can be drawn together to clamp onto the jamb or to be forced apart to release the fixture from the jamb.

Secured to one member of the clamp, as C, is a rod H, which is spaced from the clamp member and which extends through a guiding hearing or opening formed in a lug J on the other clamp member. The rodH is preferably polygonal in cross-section. Slidably mounted on the rod H is a shade-roller bracket K, the bracket having at or near one end an opening is of a shape corresponding 'with the cross-section of the rod H and through which the rod passes. At or near its other end the bracket is provided with a suitable slot or opening for the shade-roller journals and which, it will be understood, may be fashioned for the reception of the journals of the ordinary Hartshorn shade-roller. The

bracket K is provided with a set-screw L for the purpose of securing it in adjusted positions on the rod H. It will be understood that the bracket K extends horizontally outward or may be reversed to extend inward from the rod H in position to support the end of the shade-roller, it being prevented from turning on the rod Hby reason of the polygonal shape of the rod and opening in the bracket.

M indicates a curtain pole-supporting bracket secured at one end in a suitable socket end on the clamp member 0. At its outer end the bracket is provided with a curved bearing N for the curtain-pole. (Not shown.)

It will be understood that a fixture such as above described is applied to the I jamb at each side of the window, the only difference in the fixtures being that one is fashioned for the right and the other for the left hand jamb, and the shade-roller-supporting brackets are fashioned for the right and left hand shaderoller journals, as is usual and well understood. By the use of the fixtures above described it will be understood thatthe fixtures can be quickly and easily adjusted to the desired height on the jambs and that the shaderoller brackets can then be adjusted horizontally to suit the shade-roller employed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a windowshade fixture, the combination of twoclamp members fashioned to engage a window-jamb, a screw for drawing the same together, a rod secured to one clamp member spaced from and guided by the other clamp member, a shade-roller bracket supported on said rod, and means for securing the bracket in adjusted posit-ion, substantially as described.

2. In a window-shade fixture, the combination of two clamp members fashioned to engage a window jamb or frame, a screw for drawing the same toward each other, the rod secured to one member, a guiding-bracket on the other member with which said rod slidably engages, and a shade-roller bracket adjustably mounted on said rod, substantially as described.

3. In a window-shade fixture, the combination of two clamp members having engaging flanges, .lugs projecting from said members, a screw passing through said lugs and adapted to draw said members toward each other,

a rod secured to one clamp member, a bracket on the other clamp member having an open ing or bearing through which said rod passes,

a shade-roller bracket slidable and reversible on said rod, means for securing said shaderoller bracket in adjusted positions on said rod, and a curtain-pole bracket secured to one of said clam p members, substantially as described.
