To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN A. BERCHTOLD, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Sigel, county of Shelby, State of Illinois, have invented certaina new and useful Improvements in Shade-Brackets, of which the following is a full and clear specification,

reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of a window provided with double shade brackets; Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the brackets, showing a modificationof the means for attaching the bracket to the sash; Fig. 3' is a perspective view of another form of socket for attaching the bracket to the sash, and Fig. 4; is, a perspective view of one of the sockets.

The object of this invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and efficient device for attaching two window shades to the upper sash of the window so that the shades shall move up and down bodily with the sash and at the same time may be independently adjusted on their rollers, as more fully hereinafter set forth.

A. further object of this invention is to provide a double shade window bracket which shall be capable of adjustment in such manner as to permit the shades to be bodily adjusted with respect to each other and the window sash, means being provided whereby shade rollers of different lengths may be used.

In the drawing a designates a flanged socket, one of which is fastened to each upper corner of the upper sash. One arm, b, of a right-angled bracket is adapted to slide laterally into this socket and. be adjustably and removably fastened therein by a set screw 0. The other arm, (Z, of this right-angled bracket projects forwardly and has mounted on it a slidable clip a which is provided with a forwardly extending arm f having at its outer end, in its upper edge, a notch g for receiving the pi ntle of the shade roller.

The rearwardly extending arm h of another bracket extends ba ck through the clip e and is clamped against the outer face of arm d by said clip and a set screw 11 carried thereby. This bracket consists of said arm h, a laterally extending bar 7' and a forwardly extending arm 7c, whose outer end'is notched for reception of the pintle of the wider shade.

It will be observed that the arms f are adapted to receive a narrow shade and that the arms is may be adjusted to a position in front of the uprights of the window frame and thus be adapted to receive a wider shade. It will be further observed that the adjustments provided make the brackets readily adaptable to shades of various widths and to Window frames of various widths and depths. It is to be understood that my double bracket enables the employment of a dark and a light shade and, further, that my improved brackets, mounted on the upper sash of the window, provide for ideal adjustments as to light and ventilation of the room. It will be observed also that the securing of the bracket arms to the sash by means of sockets and set screws prevents the brackcts from being knocked off the sash should the lower sash of the window be raised high enough to strike against them, but with the form of socket shown in Fig. 3 it will be seen that should the lower sash strike against the brackets with considerable force the brackets will be pushed upwardly out of the sockets and thus prevent injury to the brackets. lVith the form of socket shown in Fig. 3 a set screw may or may not be used as may be desired.

It will be observed that the arm 70 extends upwardly to bring the wider shade higher up than the narrow shade so that the wider shade shall be at least on a level with the top of the window sash.
