Description

(NoModeh) S. B. REGESTER, Decd.
0'. D. REGESTER, Administrator.
BED FASTENING.
No. 588,475; Patented Aug. 17,1897- UNITED STATES 1 PATENT rrron.
COLLINS D. REGESTER, OF LANSDOWNE, PENNSYLVANIA, ADMINISTRATOR OF SAMUELB. REGESTER, DECEASED.
BED-FASTENlNG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 588,475, dated August 17, 1897.
Application filed September 24,1896. Serial No. 606,880. (No model.)
To aZl whom, it 1m concern:
Be it known that SAMUEL B. REGESTER, a citizen of the United States, formerly residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but now deceased, did during his lifetime invent certain Improvements in Bed-Fastenings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention consists of an improved form of. bedstead-fastening whereby the side rails are firmly secured to the head and foot boards,
but which can be easily detached.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of sufficient of a bed to illustrate the invent-ion, the fastening being 1 5 shown in position to lock the parts together. Fig. 2 is a perspective view on alarger scale, showing the parts of the fastening detached from the bedstead. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the fastening, showing the parts in I engagement with each other; and Fig. 4 is a transverse section of the fastening. v
This improved fastening is in the form of a latch carried bya plate secured to the side rail of a bed, the latch being adapted to engage an veyebolt secured to the foot or head board of the bed. These fastenings, as will be readily understood, are used at the four corners of the bed, and a description of one will be sufficient. 0 In the accompanying drawings, A represents the ordinary siderail of a bedstead, and B the foot-board. Secured to the side rail A is a plate D, having a laterally-projecting end D, which is provided with an opening (1, join- 3 5 ing a tapered opening 01, formed in the plate D, as shown in Fig. 2. Secured to the footboard B is a bolt G, havingaprojecting head g, in which is formed an eye 9'. WVhen the parts of the bed are placed in position to be secured together, the head g of the bolt G passes through the opening d of the plate D and enters the opening d of the same, the head 9 of the'bolt being tapered in the same manneras said opening d, so that it serves to I 4 5 bring the side rail and foot or head board into proper relation to each other, lateral alinement being preserved by engagement of ribs or flanges i on the head of the bolt with recesses t", formed in the rear face of the plate D above and below-the opening d. To secure the parts against disengagement, the latch D is provided, which is pivoted to the plate D at a, the hooked end a of the latch entering the eye g of the bolt and securely lockin g the parts together. The plate D is preferably secured to the side rails of the bed by screws adapted to openings m, and as an additional means of supporting the same against downward strain the lug d is provided, which is adapted to enter an opening formed in the side rail A.
The plate D of the fastening provides a broad bearing against both the side rail and the head or foot board, and the strain upon I the latch, such as would be caused bythe sepvused for a number of purposes, such as securing in position the parts of knockdown boxes or other knockdown structures.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
1. Abedstead-fastener consistingof a plate having a lateral flange at one end with opening in said flange, a bolt having a head with eye therein, said head adapted to pass through the opening in the flange of the plate and a latch pivoted to'the plate and adapted .to engage with the projecting portion of the bolt, substantially as specified.
2. A bedstead-fastener consisting of a plate having a laterally-projecting flange with lateral opening therein in communication wit-h a longitudinal opening in the body of the plate, said body having recesses in its rear face above and below the opening, abolthavname to this specification in the presence 0f 10 1igng a head with opening therein, and top and two subscribing Witnesses.
ottoln flanges at each edge adapted to en- T 4 F H gage with the recesses 1n the body of the plate Adnu-m-shatm,
when the bolt-head is inserted into the open- ,t, 1 Z Z J ing in said body, and a retainer adapted [0 e5 C 666G566 engage with the b0lt-l1ead when the same is Vitnesses:
thus inserted, substantially as specified. MURRAY C. BOYER,
In testimony whereof I have signed my Jos. H. KLEIN.
