Be it known that I,Lonis Fin-inn, a subect of the Czar'of Russia, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new. and useful Improvements in Corner- Fastenings for Bedsteads, of which the following is a specification.

The 'inember 18 is formed from one integral sheet steel blank of the character shown in Fig. .9, in which the dotted lines indicate the fold lines of the blank on which 7 .the blank is folded to transform it into the construction shown in Figs. 8 and 10. Themember 18 comprises integrally a top 20, 'and vertical sides 21, 22, the side 22 pre- SQIltIHQ- an outer plain vertical surface and 1 the side 21 having formed in it a rightangu- 'lar slot- 23 to receive the end of the end rail 17 'of the bedstead. The lower edge of the side 22 connects with a bottom section'2 1 of the-blank and the edge of this section 2 1 is formed with integral lugs or projections 25 which enter and are upset within correspondingly shaped openings 126 formed in the side member or section 21, as will be understood on reference-to Figs; 8- and9, whereby the blank is securely fastened in rectangular outline. The section 24 representing the bottom ofthe fastening member 18 has a lip 26 cut therein, and said lip is bent upwardly at its outer end tocon stitute a" rigid plate standing immediately at the front of the vertical member of the' angle iron end rail 17, so that when the said endrail is insertedthrough the right-angular slot, 23in the side 21 it wll'l' liebetween the post and said lip 26, as shown in Fig. 2, in which it will'be seen that the end rail 17 at its upper horizontal flange engages the bolt 27 which extends through'aihole in the top 20 of the member 18. 3132 into sections 33, 34, 35, and said portion 30, when folded downwardly onth'e dotted line 36, affords in the section 33 an inwardly set front for the member 18, while the section'3 l of said portion 30 forms a lower layer bearing upon the upper surface of the bottom 24 and the section 35, when bent upwardly on the dotted line 32, presents what maybe termed a vertical hook portion whose upper edge is below the upper edge of the sides 21, 22. The portion 35 is separated by avertical space from the section 33, as. shown in Fig. 1, and into-this space is passed certain engaging parts of the fastening member 19 when the two me'mbers of the fastener are to be interlocked. The hookportion .35 is betweenthe sides 21, 22 and preferably set inwardly from the vertical edges of the same. The section 35 is formed at its opposite side edges with lugs 37 which, when the blank is folded to convert it into the fastening member 18, are
inserted into and headed within holes 38 formed in the side sections 21,22, thereby aiding inlocking said side sections together and in rigidly maintaining'thc section 35 in vertical position. I have formed the hook section 35 both of one layer of material'and of two layers of material, in accordance with the size of the'bedstead employing the bed fastening, and when the hook section is to be formed of two layers of material, I add to the section 2 1 of the blank an exten sion 39, which when turned upwardly from the bottom section.21 on the fold line 40, will lie at the outer side of and closely against the hook section 35, as shown in Figs. 1 and 8, thereby increasing the thickness of the hook section and aiding in rigidly supporting the same and in. enabling the member 18 to properly sustain the weight 1,oee,425
exerted on it by the fastening member 19.
VVhen the extension 39 is omitted from the bottom section 24, then 'the hook section 35 will be of a single layer. The fastening member 19 will be formed of steel and fastened by rivetsor bolts 41. or otherwise upon the end of theside rail 16, and-said member 19 extends across the ,top and down the sides of said side rail and has at its outer end a downwardly projecting portion composed partly of the sides -12 and the end 43 of said member 19 to enter between the sections 33, 35 of the member 18 and thereby interlock with said member, asshown in Fig. 2. The section 35 of the member 18 affords an upwardly extending hook portion and the outer end'of the member 19 a downwardly extending hook member to tightly fit between the sections 33, 35 of the member 18 with, by preference, a wedging action. The sides 42 of the member 19 will preferably beislotted, as" at .44, to form the downwardly projecting hook portion and the slots 44 should only be of sufficient width to snugly engage theouter vertical front part-of the hook section 'on the member 18, whether said 'hook section be ofone layer or two layers. -The fastening member-19 is of b'oxlike.cdnstruction and when cngagedwith the member .18 constitutes, in the preferred construction, a substantial continuation, especially at the top, of the surfaces thereof. I prefer to provide the fastening member 19 with the slots 44, as shown in Fig. 4, so that there may not only be a binding action of the hook portion of the member 19 at the inner side of the hook portion of the member 1.8, but that in the slots 44 there shall be a binding 01 wedging'action against the front-and'rear surfaces of the hook portion of the member 18, but I do not desire to limit the invention to the provision of the slots 14- in the sides of the member 19, since said member admits of various modifications without impairing its function or the function of the member 18.
