FOUNTAIN MARKING AND SHADING PEN.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ROBERT L. MOORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Statesville, in the county of Iredell and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automatic Fountain Marking and Shading Pens; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has relation to improvements in automatic fountain markingand shading pens; and the object is to produce a simple, convenient, and durable device of this kind.

To this end the novelty consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings the same reference-numerals indicate the same parts of the invention.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved fountain shading and marking pen as it appears in operation. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail of the points.

1 represents the ordinary tubular fountainpenholder, provided with the removable protecting-cap 2.

3 represents the removable screw-threaded socket, formed with a central tapering orifice 4, communicating with the interior of the holder 1, and in this orifice is removably secured a correspondingly-tapering sleeve 5, provided with two flat points 6 6, which converge and meet at their outer ends.

7 7 represent longitudinal gutters or teeth on one-half of the flat points 6 6, which permit a greater flow of ink at this point than is fed out between the points when they present a plane surface. Consequently in marking or lettering with the pen that side of the line corresponding to the teeth presents a heavier or shaded line which gradually blends with the marking made with the opposite half of the points.

The pens may be made with points of different widths to correspond to the work to be done, and severalsets of points may be made to fit the same holder.

Although I have specifically described the construction and relative arrangement of the several elements of my invention, I do not desire to be confined to the same, as such changes or modifications may be made as clearly fall within the scope of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by. Letters Patent of the United States, 1s-

A shadingpen comprising the tubular holder 1, the removable screw-threaded socket 3, having tapering orifice 4, in combination with the tapering sleeve 5, provided with the converging sheet-metal pen-points 6 6', having longitudinal teeth 7, as and for the purpose set forth.
