RESERVOIR ATTACHMENT FOR PENS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 603,097, dated April 26, 1898.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, MARY O.'WORTH, a citi zen of the United States, residing at New York city, in. the county of New York and State of New Yorlnhave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reservoir Attachments for Pens; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in pens, and has more particular relation to reservoir attachments for the same.

The invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, all of which will be hereinafter more particularly set forth and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a pen and holder provided with my improvement. Fig. 2 represents an enlarged detail perspective view of my improved reservoir attached to a pen ready for its insertion into a holder. Fig. 3 represents a longitudinal central vertical sec tion through saidpen and reservoir, and Fig. 4 represents a top plan view of the blank from which my improved reservoir is formed.

A in the drawings represents a penholder, B the pen, and O my improved reservoir. The said reservoir is preferably constructed of a single piece of thin sheet metal. This blank before being folded to form a tube comprises two portions 0 c, of different lengths, having points a c. In folding the reservoir together one portion 0 is doubled over the opposite portion 0 and the free edges of the said portions then soldered together, commencing at the termination of the shorter portion 0 and extending to within a short distance of the extreme points 0', leaving only sufficient space at said points for the end of the pen to project through when said pen is applied between the sections of the reservoir. ter the pen has been applied in said reservoir by forcing it between the respective sections the whole is applied in the end of a penholder, being slipped into place as if a single pen were being attached. The longer section 0 is preferably slit along its extended end at c to facilitate its insertion into the penholder.

By means of this peculiar construction of reservoir it onlybecomes necessary to dip the pen and the same into the ink-well at long intervals, as the reservoir takes up and holds sufficient ink to supply the pen for an extended period.

The construction of this device is very simple and cheap, but at the same time is Very effective, as the parts of the same are not readily disarranged or injured by the use of the pen. The size of the reservoir is also such that it does not inconvenience the writer in any way by its application to the pen.

Having thus described my invention,what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A pen-reservoir comprising atube adapt ed to receive the pen, and having an extended shank adapted to lie in contact with the pen and be inserted with the same into the holder, substantially as described.

2. In a pen-reservoir, the combination with a flattened tube adapted to receive the pen, and closed along a portion of its forward end so as to leave only a pen-point opening, of an extended split shank mounted on said tube and adapted to lie against the pen so as to be inserted with the latter into the holder, substantially as described.

3. A pen-reservoir comprising a tube adapted to receive the pen, and having an extended split shank adapted to lie in contact with the pen and be inserted with the same info the holder, substantially as described.

4;. In apen-reservoir, the combination with a tube adapted to receive the pen and closed along a portion of its forward end so as to leave only a pen-point opening, and having an extended shank mounted on said tube and adapted to lie against the pen so as to be inserted with the latter into the holder, substantially as described.
