BUCKLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 504,076, dated August 29, 1893.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOHN ANDERSON BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tyler, in the county of Smith and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Back-Band Buckles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention isanew back band buckle, and consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a face view of my buckle, the back band in. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my buckle. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of Fig. 1, cut on the line 00, 00.

My buckle is cut out of one solid piece of metal and is described as follows:

a, is an upper longitudinal slit cut in the upper part of the plate .A.

a, are vertical slits at right angles with the slit a, and running into the same thus leaving a tongue I), which is turned up from the face of the plate at an angle of about twenty degrees. In the lower part of the plate are cut slits 0, similar to slits a, a, leaving a tongue (1, which is turned up from the face of the plate at an angle of about twenty degrees. In the tongue d, are out three or more V-shaped teeth e, which are turned up from the face of the plate at an angle of about thirty degrees. These teeth point downward and penetrate the back band when the buckle is pulled on. The ends f, of the plate are turned up slightly to keep them from rubbing against the sides of the animal. Integral with the lower face of the plate is a hook g, having a nib g, stamped up from the under side of the lower bar, and a nib g stamped in from the outer I face of the tongue so that the two nibs nearly meet on the inner face of the hook and keep the trace chain from jumping out after it has been snapped in. The back band is put in starting it from the lower side of the plate, bringing it up through the slit a, over the tongue b, downward over the teeth 6', tongue (1, and through the slit 0.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is y 1 1. A buckle consisting of the plate A, having the upper longitudinal slit 0., upper Verticalslits a, and lower longitudinal and vertical slits 0, cut to form tongues b, and d, slits e, teeth 6, and hook g, all integral, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.

2. A buckle consisting of the plate A, having its ends turned up, and having the slits a, a, slits 0, cut to form tongues b, and d, and teeth 6', substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth. I

3. 'A buckle consisting of the plate A, having the upper longitudinal slit at, upper vertical slits a, and lower longitudinal and Vertical slits 0, out to form tongues b, and d, slits e, teeth 6, and hook 9, having nibs g, 9 substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.
