TRACE-BUCKLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 300,215, dated June 10, 1884.

To all whom it may concern:-

Be it known that I, MosEs O. CHASE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Camp Point, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in TraceBuckles, of which the following is a specification,reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention has relation to, improvements in that class of devices known as tracebuckles, and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of the same, all as will be hereinafter more fully explained, and particularly pointed out in the claim appended.

The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in which Figure 1 represents a vertical sectional view of my buckle, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.

Referring by letters to the accompanying drawings, A designatesthe buckle, which con sists of two parts, 13 and O. The portion B is constructed with side bars, a a, which are provided with the horizontal slots or openings 1) b, and said bars are connectedto one another at each end by transverse bars 0 c, the former of which is secured to the tug end of the trace, and thelatter forms a loop to retain the trace.

0 indicates a bar, which is constructed with oblong loops or openings (Z d at each end thereof, and in the center,projecting therefrom, is a tongue, cl, which passes through one of the perforations made in the trace. Itwill be observed that the oblong loops at d are shorter in length than the slots in the side bars of the portion B,in order to permit the same to be attached thereto, and the upper loop connects with the back-band, by which it is supported, and the lower loop connects with the girth, and the slots inthe side bars being curved slightly upward, as shown in the drawings, causes the trace to bind tightly beneath the cross-bar 0, thereby firmly securing the same to the buckle, and the harder the strain upon said trace the tighter it will be held by the buckle. At the same time it is simple in operation, easily and quickly buckled and unbuckled, durable, and cheap to manufacture.

Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In a trace-buckle, the combination,with the frame portion B, consisting of the side bars, a a,provided with the curved slots 12 b, and the end bars, 0 c, of the bar O, provided at each end with the oblong loops cl (1 and the tongue (1, said loops being shorter in length than said slots, whereby the same may be passed through the latter in connecting the portions B and O to one another, as shown, described, and for the purpose specified.
