ANDREW A. FANGIVIAN, 0F BANCROFT, IOWA.
HAME AND TUG CONNECTION.
Application filed September 13, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that ANDREW A. FANGMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bancroft, in the county of Kossuth, State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hame and Tug Gonnections; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in harness, and is particularly directed to the provision of a connecting means between the staple member of a hame and the end of the respective tug or trace.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a metallic connection between the hame staple and the respective tug eye of a harness to take the place of the usual leather connection which has a tendency to wear, without sacrificing any of the advantages of flexibility possessed by a leather connection.
It is further the object to provide such a connection which may be stamped of sheet metal in such manner as to insure a maximum cheapness of manufacture.
With the above and other objects and advantages in View, the invention resides more particularly in the novel combination, formation and arrangement of parts as more fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the appended claim.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings, wherein similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view showing the improved connection on a harness; Fig. 2 is a top plan View thereof; Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is a plan view of one of theblanks from which the members are formed.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, there is shown a portion of the harness including a hame 5 carrying the usual attaching staple 6 and a trace portion 7 having the attaching eye 8.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 2, 1917.
Serial No. 50,422.
The improved connecting member comprises a pair of pivotally connected sections of similar shape. Each of these sections comprises a strip 9 of sheet metal having one end tapered and provided with the rivet hole 10 and having'at its other end a reduced r extension 11 provided with the rivet hole 12, and this end is provided with a pair of slits extending inwardly from the side edges of the extension 11 to form tongues 13 at the sides of said extension.
In applying the connection, each of the sections is bent about a respective eye or staple and the tongues 12 are curved thereabout to hold the section against undesired movement, a suitable rivet or other member 1% being passed through the holes 10 and 12 to pivotally connect the members.
The structure described forms a sufiiciently flexible connection having slight tendency to wear.
What is claimed is A connection of the class described comprising a pair of sections each formed of a single blank having one end taperingly re duced and having a reduced extension at its other end, the blank being provided with slits adjacent said extension forming tongues, said sections being each transversely bent to embrace a securing member with their extremities and their tongues bent about said members, one of said sections having its extremities extending in parallel planes from the bend, the other of said sections having its extremities converging from the bend and then parallel to lie between the extremities of the first section, a rivet passing through the overlapping portions of said extremities, and a spacing washer on said rivet between the extremities.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
