Description

IITEE STATES FFICE@ APATEN TABLET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.`37,503. dated March 9. 11386.
Application filed J'uly 17, 1885. Serial No. 171.875. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HENRY KANE KING, of Mount Sterling, in the county of Brown and State of Illinois, have invented an Improved Tablet, of which the following is a specification.
The invention Will lirst be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claims.
Figure l of the drawings is a plan View. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal central section; Fig. 3, a transverse vertical section axially through one ofthe rollers, as well as through side pieces and supports. Fig. 4. is a detail view in perspective of the shield.
In the drawings, A represents my tablet in its entirety. It has the plate or board a, supported in the two parallel side pieces, a a', and the parallel end rollers, a2 a2, journaled in the four corner-supports da a3 a3 a3. Each of the rollersis provided with a longitudinal keeper or wire, f, under which the ends of paper may be secured, or the rollers may be slotted for the same purpose, or any other suitable way of fastening the paper to the rolls may be adopted. Each roller al is provided with an outside knob or crank, so that it may be turned with the hand in order to transfer the roll of paper partially or entirely from one roll to the other.
For the purpose of avoiding all noise, in school or elsewhere, from the turning of the rolls, I use an elastic bearing, B, provided with a right-angled flange adapted to serve for a bearing and a washer, the latter coming A between the shoulder of the roll and the corated scales upon their upper edges, for the purpose of measuring distances and to assist in map or other drawing.
C C represent shields detachably arranged under elastic bands D D, which pass over the curved bottoms of the supports a3. These shields are corner-notched at c, so as to pass down on the inside below the fasteners E E, which hold bands D to the supports a3. They are thus prevented from lateral displacement.
The bands D are made to perform two functions, namely: to confine the shields and to deaden the noise which children make in moving the tablet.
By notching the shields at the corners and end-fastening rubber straps across the bottom of the bearing-blocks the shields may be easily removed by simply turning' back the rubber.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
l. The two'parallel end rollers, a at, having keepers a* and outside knobs, in combination with two parallel side pieces, ctct, four corner-supports, a3, the shields C, and elastic bands D, all arranged substantially as shown and described.
2. In a tablet. the combination, with the rolls and bearing-blocks, of shields notched at the corners and rubber straps end-fastened across the bottom of said blocks, whereby the shields may be easily removed by turning back the rubber. t
