FOLDING BASSINETTE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Ari 8, 1922.
Application filed May 7, 1920. Serial No. 379,526.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, HENRY Bnim, a citizen of the United States and resident of the borough of Brooklyn county of Kings. city and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Folding Bassinettcs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in bassinettes and has for its principal object to provide a device which may be folded and stored in a small space when not in use.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device which may be mounted upon wheels the axles of which form a securing means for certain parts of the bassinette and thereby strengthen the same where most of the strain would be applied.
A further and more specific object of the invention resides in the provision of a device having its hinges so arranged that when the same is opened a limit of movement may be had, thereby facilitating the placing of the spring in position.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists of a novel construction combination and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the following specification, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1, is a side view of a bassinette constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2, is an end view of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3, is a plan view of the device showing the same in open position.
Fig. t, illustrates the bassinette partially closed. 1
Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail fragmentary view partially in section illustrating one of the wheel axles used as a securing means for a portion of the frame and Fig. 6, is an enlarged detail sectional view through one of the end rails illustrating the spring supporting means.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 10 designates one of the side panels of the device which consists of spaced parallel rails connected by vertically extending spindles. The opposite side panel desig nated by the numeral 11 is constructed in a similar manner, while the end panels designated generically by the numeral 12 each consists of vertically extending legs or uprights 13, connected at their lower ends by a cross bar it and at their upper ends by panels 15 each of which consist of an upper rail 16 and a lower rail 17, which rails are connected by spindles.
The rail. 17 is of greater depth than the bottom rail of the side panels 10 and is provided at spaced intervals with inwardlv extending dowels 18 upon which the spring frame is supported. The dowels 18 are placed near the lower edge of the rail 17 and are adapted when the bassinette is in folded position to underlie the bottom side rail so as not to interfere with the compact folding of the bassinette. The side panels 10 and 11 and the end panels 12 are connected by hinges 19 which are arranged in the manner illustrated in the drawings so as to permit the device to fold in one direction. It will be obvious that such a structure will prevent the folding of the device in the opposite direction owing to the fact that the ends of the side panels 10 and 1.1 will abut the inner faces of the end panels 12 when the device is moved to its full open position.
As illustrated in Fig. 5, the cross bar 14 of each end panel is provided with a cylindrical extension 20 which projects into recess 21 formed near the lower end of each leg 13 and these legs and bars are held in position by means of a relatively long screw 22, the headed end of which forms a bearing upon which each wheel 23 rotates.
The spring frame is designated generically by the numeral 24 and consists of longitudinal and cross bars, the latter being designated by the numeral 25. These cross bars 25 have secured thereto a clamping member 26 beneath which the end of the spring fabric 27 is secured.
In use the device is assembled in the man ner illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3 with the spring frame resting upon the dowels 18. When it is desired to fold the device, the spring frame is removed and it will be obvious that the panels may be swung at their hinges as illustrated in Fig. 4, until the panels 10 and 11 lie against each other. When in this position it will be obvious that the device will occupy a minimum amount of room and may be stored at any suitable location.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described a preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that certain minor details in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. 1
' What is claimed is:
1. A. folding bassinette, comprising folding panels, supporting members associated With said panels, and a removable member formin a bottom for said bassinette ada Jted to rest on said supporting members and mantain the bassinette in full open position.
2. A folding bassinette comprising side panels, end panels, hinges connecting the side and end panels and a removable spring); adapted to fit Within the device when open, said spring forming a floor therefor and holding the device in full extended position. I
3. A folding bassinette comprising side panels, end panel-s,hinges connecting the side with the end panels, supporting elements on the end panels, an assembled spring attached to fit Within the device When in its HENRY BEER.
