Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 175,399, dated March 28, 1876 applicationfiled August 28, 1875.

Be it known that we, CHARLES A. WHE- DON and ASBURY S. WHEDON, of Oranford, in the county of Union and State of New J ersey, have invented a new and Improved Paper Box, of which the following is a specification This invention consists of a bandbox, constructed in a simple way of two pieces of paper and a stand for the hat, which is also contrived so as to be made and attached in a manner to economize the cost of construction, and to facilitate its use in a folding box.

Figures '1 and 2 are diagrams of the two pieces of paper used in the construction of the box, and Fig.1 also shows the hat-stand. Fig. 3 is aview, partly in plan and partly in horizontal section, of the box partly made, and Fig. 4 is a transverse section of the complete box.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

We take two lon gpieces of paper, A B, oneof end and fold piece A crosswise on the lines a, b, d, and 0; also fold up the flies G of piece B, and then fold it crosswise on the lines f, g, h, and i,- then set piece B on part j of piece A, with part m folded up inside of n, as represented in Fig. 3, fold up part K against parts I, and paste or otherwise fasten them together, and fold part 0 over on the top, and 19 down the front k. The parts (1 of piece B thus form the ends of the box; a, the outer part of the back; 1, portions of the front, andO flies to the top and liottom.

The hat-stand consists of the strip D. of paper, bent as shown in Fig. 1, and riveted or otherwise fastened by one foot, E, to the bot-- tom j, whilethe other foot is fastened under I Having thus described our invention, we

claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A paper box constructed of strip A, folded transversely on the lines a, b, d, .and e, in combination with piece B, having flies O, and folded on lines specified.

2. The combination of the hat-stand D, con-' structed substantially as described, with the parts A B of a folding box, said stand being permanently attached at one end, E, and dc- -tachably connected by the other end to the bottom of the box specified.
