Description

Sept. 13, 1938. P'. F. HART I REGULATOR DJUSTING MECHANISM Fild April 2, 1938 P, INVENTQR.
'A' ATTORNEY.
Paten'tedSept. 13,193.8 e y l l l UNITE-D STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,129,763 l i REGULATOR ADJUSTING MECHANISM Peter F. Hart', Hibbng, Minn., assigner oi.' twenty percent to Martin Tellor, Hibbing, Minn.
Application April 2, 193s, serial No. 19ans 3 Claims. .(Cl. 73-151') This invention relates to an adjusting mecha- .v insure the screw driver blade I2 remaining in a nism especially designed for use in connection retarded or inactive position. normally awayfrom i with the adjusting of gas pressure regulators and the adjusting elements of the regulator. The particularly adapted to those known as pressure lower end of the spindle 'I has formed therein a. l 5 dome regulators. Y y wrench socket of a shape andsize to t the jamb 5 Asis well known, lthe adjustment of such regunut 5 on the ordinary dome regulator, and the lators necessitates exceedingly careful manipulaupper end of the spindle "1 is provided with option and skill in making the adjustment, and inposed handles I3 .for rotatlvemanipulation of the view of which the'present invention is provided Y wrench when upon the nut, or for applying it to for accomplishing same as readily and eiciently the nut 5.. 10 as possible, and this comprises the principal An important feature of this assembly is 'that object of theinvention. the spindle 'I is materially less in diameter than Further objects and advantages of the inventhe interior of the tubular body I so that the tion will appear in the following description application of the wrench socket to the nut may thereof. be more conveniently accomplished, in that the l5 Referring now to the accompanying drawing, lo'wer end of the spindle may be flopped about'for v forming part of this application, and wherein finding the nut, as it may 'be slightly to one side like reference characters indicate like parts: of the center from time to timev or vary some in Figure 1- is a central vertical sectional lview different regulators as the CaSe may beof a gas pressure regulator of the dome type, From the tubular body l there is provided the 20 i shown partially in elevation, andas having one lateral pipe extension Ilvcarrylng the elbow I5 of the improved adjusting mechanisms applied thereupon communicating with a suitable globe, thereto, it also being partially broken away forv valve I6 having a discharge connection terminata better comprehension of the details thereof and ing in the hose nipple I1. Between it and the its connection to the manometer. valve is installed a T-connection I8 carrying the 25 Figure 2 is an enlarged end elevation of the relief valve or bleeder 2l, this latter being proadjusting mechanism. vided to relieve any pressure that might be caused The device comprises a relatively short tubular Within the tube I9 by the Slipping 0f the end body portion vI having an externally screw of same onto the nipple I'I and/or misadjustment threaded lower extremity which is adapted to be of the regulator which might destroy proper regis- 30 screwed into the discharge 2 of the regulator 3, tration' in the manomelel if 1101i relieved ltfl'eA and beneath which discharge is found installed final adjustment of the regulator occurred. within such regulator the adjusting screw 4, sur- To test and/or adjust a gas pressure regulator rounded by the lock or jamb nut 5, which two With my imPIOVed device abVe described. the devices it is well known must be carefully manipdevice is attached to the regulator as illustrated, 35 ulated to adjust the discharge through the reguand then a compressed air or gas line is attached lator, and which ma'nipulationusually requires a to the regulator inthe internally screw threaded considerable length of time, and ordinarilyperinlet opening 22. I0 is installed an expensive helical spring `II to l The manometer is illustrated at 20 and itis A|55 obvious that some other form ofgage may be employed without departing from the spirit of the l screw driver mounted axially of said wrench member, a manometer, and a controlled pipe connection from said body portion to said manometer whereby pressure of uid passing through said regulator will be indicated upon said manometer when adjustment of the regulator is made.
2. In a device for adjusting gas regulators hav- -ing pressure adjusting screws and lock nuts therein, comprising a tubular body portion for application to the discharge of the regulator; means within said body portion i'or adjusting the adjusting screw and turning the lock nut, a pressure indicating gage, and a connection from said tubular body portion to said gage whereby the pressure of fluid passing through said regulator will be indicated upon said gage.
3. In a device for adjusting gas regulators hav ing pressure adjusting screws and locknuts therein, comprising a body portion for applica tionto the discharge of the regulator, means within said body portion for adjusting the adjusting screw and turning the lock nut, a pressure indicating gage,- and a connection from said body portion to said gage whereby the pressure of iluld passing through said regulator will be indicated upon said gage, and means for relieving the pressure within said connection.
