Abstract

582,032. Pinch cocks. RULE, T. B. June 27, 1944, No. 12157. [Class 135] In a hand-operated valve for controlling viscous and corrosive fluids of the type in which a rubber or rubber substitute tube flanged at its ends and enclosed in a metal body or casing is compressed by a slidable screw-driven plunger to stop the fluid flow, the tube is secured to the plunger on the one hand and to a point of the casing opposite the plunger on the other hand so that movements of the plunger are positively conveyed to the tube. As shown, a rubber tube a is flanged at b and embraced by the parts of a longitudinally split casing c bolted together at e. The central part of the tube carries or is integral with projections n<1>, p<1>, the former being secured to the plunger m by a screw n and the latter being secured to the casing c by a bolt p. The plunger m slides in an extension f of the casing c and has a slot to receive a nut l which travels on a screwed spindle h operated by a hand wheel j. In a modification suitable for high pressures, the plunger m carries lateral abutments to support the upper side of the tube against the fluid pressure in the closed position. According to the Provisional Specification, the flexible tube may have a centrally disposed rubber or fabric sleeve. Also the valve body may be designed for attachment to a continuous length of flexible tube.
