IMPROVEMENT IN BED-BOTTOMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 202,149, dated April 9, 1878; application filed March 14, 1878.

have invented a new and Improved Bed-Bottom, of which the following is a specification: In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a top view, and Fig. 2 a vertical longitudinal section on line a: :12, Fig. 1, of my improved bed-bottom.

The invention relates to an improved bedbottom of superior elasticity, that yields at any point thereof in uniform manner; and the invention consists of a number of cross-shaped pieces, connected witheach other in longitudinal and transverse directions, and with the outer frame of the bed-bottom by rubber strips attached to the cross-shaped pieces.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the frame of my improved bed-bottom. and B a number of cross-shaped pieces or links, that are connected, in longitudinal and transverse directions, by elastic connecting-strips O, with each other and with the frame A of the bedbottom. The elastic strips are secured, in any suitable manner, to the cross-shaped pieces or links, they being preferably set into recesses of the same so as to be flush therewith and with the frame A. The cross-shaped pieces may be made with enlarged or broader ends, so as to obtain a larger bearing-surface for the mattress. The strips impart to the crosspieces a uniform degree of elasticity and flexibility at any point of the bed-bottom, and furnish a comfortable and yielding spring bedbottom of simple construction without the employment of the usual metallic springs.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with frame A, of intermediate cross-shaped pieces or linksB, connected longitudinally and transversely by elastic strips 0, with each other and with the frame, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
