J. WILLIAM O. PETERS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN WOVEN-WIRE MATTRESSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,175, dated October 15, 1872.
Torall 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J. WILLiAM C. PETERS, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Woven-`Wire Fabric, of
which the following` is 'a full, clear, and exact description, which willenable others skilled in the art t0 which my invention belongs to make the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, and in which the figure there shown represents a top view of awoven-wire fabric einbodying my improvements.
My invention relates to that class of Wovenwire fabric which is usually employed in manufacturing wire mattresses; and it consists in the novel features hereafter set forth-the object of my invention being to strengthen the fabric in all its parts and render it firm in such parts as-are subject to the greatest strain.
In the drawing, a a represent strands of spring-wire twisted together and spirally formed; a number of these twisted spirals are woven together in the manner shown so as to form a fabric.
I deem it preferable to twist the wires a a together loosely; and more than two wires may be twisted together and formed and woven in the manner described, when a fabric of greater strength is required. By this means the fabric is strengthened in all its parts and remains sufciently elastic for ordinary purposes. In order to further strengthen such parts of the fabric as are subject to the greatest strain I loop or weave two or more twisted spirals, c a', through the loops of the fabric, as shown at A A. These cords A A may be arranged in any part of the fabric which may require the greatest strength and firmness.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, is-
l. A fabric made of twisted spirals woven together, substantially as shown and described, the twisted spirals consisting of two or more strands of wire twisted together and spirally formed, substantially as specified.
2. In combination with a Wovenwire fabric one or more cords, A A, made of two or more cablets, consisting of two or more strands of wire twisted and formed as specified.
